The Point Lepreau environmental monitoring program was established in 1978 to assess the impact of the operation of the CANDU 600 nuclear reactor built at Point Lepreau on the shores of the Bay of Fundy. It was designed to supply a broad understanding of the processes which affect the radioactivity released from the station into the surrounding environment. The sampling program includes the collection of samples from the air, water, and soil as well as the measurement of key oceanographic parameters to identify transport pathways and determine fluxes of radionuclides along specific pathways. This report covers data from 1987 and 1988 and compares it to that collected in pre-operational activities to assess the environmental implications of the operation of nuclear reactors in coastal regions and to determine various parameters associated with the long-term transport of radionuclides.

The Point Lepreau environmental monitoring program was established to assess the environmental impact of radioactive, thermal and chemical releases from the Point Lepreau, N.B. nuclear generating station located on the Bay of Fundy. This report contains results for the 3d and 4th years of the operational phase. Special emphasis was placed on the characterization of the thermal plume, the distribution of tritium within different phases of the environment and the uptake of radionuclides in lichen, an efficient accumulator of atmospheric particulates. Radionuclide measurements made on samples collected during the operational phase of the reactor were compared to pre-operational activities to assess the impact of the operation of the station. This report also includes the AERU responses to a boiler tube leak at the Point Lepreau station starting in December 1985, and the accident at the nuclear power station in Chernobyl, USSR for which samples were collected at various locations in the Atlantic region to assess the environmental impact.

The Point Lepreau environmental monitoring program was established in 1978 to assess the environmental impacts of radioactive, thermal and chemical releases from the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, located on the Bay of Fundy. This report contains results from the operational phase of the program. Samples were collected from the marine, atmospheric, terrestrial, & freshwater environment in the vicinity of the station for radionuclide analysis. Levels measured in these samples were compared to pre-operational levels to assess the environmental implications of the operation of nuclear reactors in coastal regions and to determine various parameters associated with the long term transport of radionuclides.
