These were conducted as part of a feasibility study for a 50-megawatt wood-fired power plant in Vermont and in preparation for an environmental impact assessment of a wood-fired electric/steam congeneration facility now in the planning phase for a site in Maine. The major research problems associated with the environmental impact of harvesting wood for electric power generation and industrial energy are highlighted.
