Economics, Entrepreneurship, Ethics, three subjects one does not often see addressed in one book. Yet upon reading and studying the different treatments, an overlap can be perceived and the interrelation of the three becomes evident for a successful business. The entrepreneur cannot live in isolation. To be successful and start, grow, and manage a profitable business with sustainability, he/she must be cognizant of all the factors that may impact (favorable and unfavorable) the business. In this regard a true internal locus-of-control, a firm belief that “if it is to be it is up to me” must exist. It is not enough to be expert in a particular line of business or trade. One must know the business-of-the-business. In so doing a working knowledge of the environment in which the business is to survive is essential. Besides the technical knowledge which may be necessary for operations, and besides the sales and marketing acumen possessed, the financial language of the business must be understood and constantly analyzed and monitored. As does the economic conditions of the market, industry, country, and the world; for all will have an effect on the future and success of the venture. Constant attention must be paid to government regulations and legislation. Ethical considerations and behavior must always be in the forefront of decision-making. In the final analysis the true entrepreneur is all alone. No matter how many key employees are hired, business partners and investors are acquired, advisors and consultants are made available, the founder and perhaps the CEO and COO for an extended period of time, can never delegate ultimate responsibility. It is therefore necessary to always be working on the business and not simply working in the business. A business person, founder, owner, manager, entrepreneur certainly does not deal with economics, entrepreneurship, and ethics in isolation. They are interwoven and necessary for every productive decision made. This book, $Economics, $Entrepreneurship, $Ethics, accompanying the others in the series, $The Entrepreneur’s Edge – Finding the Money, $The Entrepreneur’s Manager – The Business Man’s Business Plan, and $The Entrepreneur’s Guide – To Start, Grow, and Manage a Profitable Business, helps to fill the tool box necessary for every entrepreneur and business manager. “Entrepreneurship is based upon the same principles, whether the entrepreneur is an existing large institution or an individual starting his or her new venture singlehanded. The rules are pretty much the same, the things that work and those that don’t are pretty much the same, and so are the kinds of innovation and where to look for them. In every case, there is a discipline we might call Entrepreneurial Management.” Peter Drucker

This practical text presents an applied, realistic view of entrepreneurial finance for today's changing business environment. It provides an integrated set of concepts and applications, drawing from entrepreneurship, finance, and accounting, that will prepare aspiring entrepreneurs for the world they will most likely face as they start their new businesses. The contents are designed to follow the life cycle of a new business venture, with topics presented in the logical order that entrepreneurs are likely to face them. Although the authors cover venture capital and public offerings, they put them in their proper perspective as unlikely vehicles for most entrepreneurs. The book includes a comprehensive financial spreadsheet template with step-by-step instructions that allows for applications of many of the concepts to actual businesses. This new edition adds a nonprofit version of the spreadsheet, and both templates can be downloaded from the author's website. The book also includes a comprehensive survey of funding sources, including all-new chapters on financing over the life of a venture and financing from the entrepreneur, family and friends.

Start-up now, get inspired to create a high impact international business, make a difference by putting ideas into action, and produce a return on investment with your talents. Entrepreneurs gain satisfaction by using their talents to produce new wealth for both society and themselves. In a modern world, employment choices typically fit established institutional norms. A “good” job in a government bureaucracy or a large corporation, with its abundance of restrictive policies, may not provide much work satisfaction despite the employment benefits and stability. If you have ever thought, dreamed, imagined, or fantasized about starting a business, or being part of a company doing creative work with a purpose, then you have started to connect with your entrepreneurial spirit. This book is for anyone who wants to better understand the entrepreneurial approach. It originated from the first entrepreneurship course I taught at the University of Pisa from 2011 through 2014 and is based on over 15 years of experience as an entrepreneur of venture backed technology companies. The course was designed for PhD researchers and MBA students looking to expand their work opportunities beyond their traditional prescribed paths into institutions and corporations. This material is not only for academic researchers, it assumes that entrepreneurship is latent in all people. Traditionally, we are taught not to aim for self-employment through entrepreneurship during the years of primary education. Anyone with an advanced education, self-motivation, ambition, a vision for how to improve the world, a good attitude, and a willingness to take on the challenge of actively exploring entrepreneurial pursuits, should be able to follow the material and put it to use in their own efforts. If you currently own or are working in a company and want to innovate and expand the business, this book might be of value in inspiring you to grow a high impact international business by leveraging the business you are already doing. Read it to prepare for the journey and put the concepts into action; do not be a passive reader. Start-up now, get inspired to create a high impact international business, make a difference by putting ideas into action, and produce a return on investment using your talents.
