Ecosystem Response Modelling in the Murray-Darling Basin provides an overview of the status of science in support of water management in Australia's largest and most economically important river catchment, and brings together the leading ecologists working in the rivers and wetlands of the Basin. The declining ecological condition of the internationally significant wetlands of the Murray-Darling Basin has been a prominent issue in Australia for many years. Several high profile government programs have sought to restore the flow conditions required to sustain healthy wetlands, and this book documents the scientific effort that is underpinning this task. In the Southern Murray-Darling Basin, the River Murray, the Murrumbidgee River and their associated wetlands and floodplains have been the focus of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority's 'The Living Murray' program, and the NSW Rivers Environmental Restoration Program. Project report on groundwater dependent ecosystem mapping and potential groundwater dependent ecosystem aquifer mapping in the eastern Murray-Darling Basin, including conceptual models and mapping rule-sets. Anthropogenic changes to groundwater regimes can result in significant risks to groundwater dependent ecosystems in response to changes in groundwater flow, flux, pressure, level and/or quality. The Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem mapping project provides critical information on where these ecosystems occur and indicates potential connectivity to groundwater across seven drainage sub-basins covering approximately 127,231 square kilometres or 7.4% of Queensland. The seven drainage sub-basins mapped were: Balonne River, Condamine River, Dumaresq River, Maranoa River, Macintyre Brook, Macintyre and Weir Rivers, and Moonie River. The surface extent and properties of potential aquifers supporting GDEs in the seven drainage sub-basins are also provided.
