Download Dragons, Ogres, and Blackbirds: Fairytales with Heroines Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This whimsical collection of fairytales explores a wide-range of dilemmas that confront women from youth to old age. The heroines of these fairytales face betrayals that range from romantic disappointment to parental betrayal to societal intrigue, but they survive their ordeals based on a combination of their own spunk as well as the moral support of kindred spirits. The fairytales illustrate the stratagems by which the heroines resist the manipulations of domineering humans. The manipulations are expressed metaphorically as pigs, ogres, spiders, blackbirds, and dragons. The heroines' persistence in defending the integrity of their hearts is assisted by fairy godmothers, magic wands and mirrors as well as by worthy woodsmen, smithies, and princes.

Download English Fairy Tales Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
English Fairy Tales By Joseph Jacobs A word or two as to our title seems necessary. We have called our stories Fairy Tales though few of them speak of fairies. The same remark applies to the collection of the Brothers Grimm and to all the other European collections, which contain exactly the same classes of tales as ours. Yet our stories are what the little ones mean when they clamour for "Fairy Tales," and this is the only name which they give to them. One cannot imagine a child saying, "Tell us a folk-tale, nurse," or "Another nursery tale, please, grandma." As our book is intended for the little ones, we have indicated its contents by the name they use. The words "Fairy Tales" must accordingly be taken to include tales in which occurs something "fairy," something extraordinary--fairies, giants, dwarfs, speaking animals. It must be taken also to cover tales in which what is extraordinary is the stupidity of some of the actors.

Download The Garden Without Walls Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Garden Without Walls explores the story of a reserved young man, Dante Cardover, and his struggles to find true love. Dante was brought up with a Puritan mindset. Early in life, he lost his mother and rarely communicated with his distant father. The author presents Dante as a shy, introverted man who suppressed his feelings to the extent that it kept him from finding love. As the story moves forward, three entirely distinct women offer him different kinds of love. Ruthita is his childhood friend. Fiesole is a great flirt with profound ideals of her own. Vi Carpenter is Dante's soulmate, but a barrier exists between them. The author did an excellent job giving all the women independence and not making them appear merely for Cardover to pick and choose. The book beautifully delivers a take on the wisdom and misunderstandings of youth. It covers various events in Dante's life, including his school days to his days at Oxford, his relationship with his father, and his encounters with women. It is an incredibly written story with a delightful plot and unique characters that will please the reader of any kind.

Download Supernatural beings from Slovenian myth and folktales Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Focusing on Slovenian mythology the book contains a review of Slovenian mythological, historical, and narrative material. Over 150 supernatural beings are presented, both lexically and according to the role that they have in Slovenian folklore. They are classified by type, characteristic, features, and by the message conveyed in their motifs and contents. The material has been analysed in the context of European and some non-European mythological concepts, and the author deals with theory and interpretations as well as the conclusions of domestic and foreign researchers. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book.
