Excerpt from The Borrowed Bride: A Fairy Love Legend of Donegal The spirit mythology of the Irish is said to have come down from a Strange tribe - the Tuat/za-d'e-saam, meaning Magic God Almoners, who ruled in Ireland some thirteen hundred years before the Christian era. Recent researches Show that this tribe or sect of religious magicians was among the earliest that migrated from ancient Iran, the cradle of the human race. They preceded the classic Greeks in Europe, and were probably related to the American mound builders and serpent worshippers, traces of whom in the Ohio valley are now being examined by a commission. The notes at the back of the volume may be worth perusal in this respect. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Irish Fairy Tales is a retelling of ten Irish folktales by the Irish author James Stephens. The English illustrator Arthur Rackham provided interior artwork, including numerous black and white illustrations and sixteen color plates. The stories are set in a wooded, Medieval Ireland filled with larger-than-life hunters, warriors, kings, and fairies. Many stories concern the Fianna and their captain, Fionn mac Uail, from the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. The book was first published by Macmillan and Company in 1920. It is one of Stephens' better-known works.
