This autobiography describes my early life in England during which time I wore a badge of honor by deliberately performing poorly in school. Upon my arrival in America, I transformed myself, achieving academic success first in nursing school, and ultimately becoming a medical doctor. I have included memorable patient vignettes ranging from admirable and brave patients with challenging illnesses, and examples of humorous or bizarre patient encounters. Throughout my career, I have been a 'doctor under fire'. An example in this book describes the turmoil I experienced when my employer, a well known health system in Philadelphia, declined to renew my contract due to 'business reasons'. I decided to open an independent solo practice and I was honored because over 98% of the patients chose to follow me to my new office rather than remain with the prestigious health system. This subsequently becomes a 'David and Goliath story' after the deep pocketed health system sued me in court accusing me of soliciting patients. I punched back by counter-suing the health system because I felt strongly that, contrary to the belief of the health systems, patients are not property that is owned by them. Rather, a patient's right to choose their own doctor must always be respected.

"We have assembled ten teams of talented writers and artists and asked them to start their stories in the world established by Night of the Living Dead. Then we let our imaginations, and our zombies, run wild. Mostly, these are new stories [that] star new characters. But if you love the classic film, you won't be disappointed. You can follow your favorite film characters from their first appearances, to their dying breaths, to their first baby zombie steps"--About Double Take web page, viewed November 2, 2016.

'My first serious blackout marked the line between sanity and insanity. Though I would have moments of lucidity over the coming days and weeks, I would never again be the same person ...' Susannah Cahalan was a happy, clever, healthy twenty-four-year old. Then one day she woke up in hospital, with no memory of what had happened or how she had got there. Within weeks, she would be transformed into someone unrecognizable, descending into a state of acute psychosis, undergoing rages and convulsions, hallucinating that her father had murdered his wife; that she could control time with her mind. Everything she had taken for granted about her life, and who she was, was wiped out. Brain on Fire is Susannah's story of her terrifying descent into madness and the desperate hunt for a diagnosis, as, after dozens of tests and scans, baffled doctors concluded she should be confined in a psychiatric ward. It is also the story of how one brilliant man, Syria-born Dr Najar, finally proved - using a simple pen and paper - that Susannah's psychotic behaviour was caused by a rare autoimmune disease attacking her brain. His diagnosis of this little-known condition, thought to have been the real cause of devil-possessions through history, saved her life, and possibly the lives of many others. Cahalan takes readers inside this newly-discovered disease through the progress of her own harrowing journey, piecing it together using memories, journals, hospital videos and records. Written with passionate honesty and intelligence, Brain on Fire is a searingly personal yet universal book, which asks what happens when your identity is suddenly destroyed, and how you get it back. 'With eagle-eye precision and brutal honesty, Susannah Cahalan turns her journalistic gaze on herself as she bravely looks back on one of the most harrowing and unimaginable experiences one could ever face: the loss of mind, body and self. Brain on Fire is a mesmerizing story' -Mira Bartók, New York Times bestselling author of The Memory Palace Susannah Cahalan is a reporter on the New York Post, and the recipient of the 2010 Silurian Award of Excellence in Journalism for Feature Writing. Her writing has also appeared in the New York Times, and is frequently picked up by the Daily Mail, Gawker, Gothamist, AOL and Yahoo among other news aggregrator sites.

After the epic struggle of World War II, W.E.B. Griffin’s bestselling chronicle of the Marine Corps enters a new stage of modern warfare—with new weapons, new strategies, and a new breed of warrior—on the battlefields of Korea... In 1950, Captain Ken McCoy’s report on North Korean hostilities meets with so much bureaucratic displeasure that he is promptly booted out of the Corps—and just as promptly picked up by the fledgling CIA. Soon, his predictions come true: on June 25th the North Koreans invade across the 38th parallel. Immediately veterans scattered throughout military and civilian life are called up, many with only seventy-two hours notice. For these men and their families, names such as Inchon and Pusan will acquire a new, bloody reality—and become their greatest challenge of all...
