The Bhagavadgita has lent itself to several readings to defend or contest various views on life, morality, and metaphysics. This book explores the the role of the Bhagavadgita in the formation of nationalist discourse. It examines the ways in which the Gita became the central terrain of nationalist contestation, and the diverse ethico-moral mappings of the Indian nation. Focusing on Bankimchandra Chatterjee, Balgangadhar Tilak, Swami Vivekananda, Aurobindo Ghose, Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave, and B.R. Ambedkar as the representatives of different strands of nationalist discourse, this volume probes their reflections on the Gita. The author also discusses with issues such as the relation between the nation and the masses, renunciation and engagement with the world, the ideas of equality, freedom, and common good, in the context of a nationalist discourse. He argues that the commentaries on this 'timeless' text opened up several possible understandings without necessarily eliminating one another.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba wrote a series of articles under the Vahini series, for Sanathana Sarathi, a monthly magazine being published by Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust, Publications Division, Prasanthi Nilayam. These precious articles are brought out now, under the title “Geeta Vahini”, in this book, for the benefit of readers. This is not a commentary or summary of the divine message that was given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. It conveys the same message in a simpler form to us, in order to remove our delusion and confer faith and strength on us, so that we may realise our own reality. Bhagawan says, “Drawing on the Divine that is inherent in us is the lesson of Geeta… Arjuna is the jiva and Krishna is the Deva. When both are in contact, impregnable might results… Krishna had to work in and through Arjuna, so that the reign of Dharma (righteousness) is re-established. Arjuna means white, pure, unblemished. Hence, he is the proper instrument.” We too can become proper instruments in restoring Dharma, if we follow the lessons that Bhagawan teaches through this book.

The Holy Gita belongs to the whole of humanity. It is a logical and scientific exposition of ‘The Truth’. It is like a 'beacon' just as are other scriptures. IT HELPS IN UNDERSTANDING THE PURPOSE OF LIFE – OF BEING AND BECOMING WHAT ONE INDEED IS – AN IMMORTAL CHILD OF THE IMMORTAL, INFINITE LORD – THE CHANGELESS SUBSTRATUM – NIRGUNA NIRAKAARA SATCHIDANANDA BRAHMAN. About the author: Author: Malayaj Garga Birth : 11 September 1953 (haritalikateej), Meerut (U.P.), India Education: B.Tech. (Mech.) / IIT Kanpur; 1975. Gita (Bhagavadgita) is the most important and the most searched for work on spiritual philosophy and spiritual way of life which presents a natural synthesis of both material and spiritual values and which contains almost every phase of knowledge (wisdom) that is required as an efficacious guide for happy and healthy living. Commentaries on the Gita far outnumber those on any other book. Right from the “Gita-Bhasya”of the great Shankaracarya (8th Century A.D.) upto the most recent “Yathartha-Gita” of Swami Adgadananda (end of 20th Century and beginning of the 21st century) there are more than hundred commentaries, some of them from the pen of great Acaryas. And now (2013) comes the work entitled “The HolyGita :The Discourse Nonpareil” by Malayaj Garga, a talented person whose writing seems not only intelligent and rational but also inspired.
