Abstract: The 1H-indazole framework is common in pharmaceutical agents due to its diverse pharmacological properties, such as anti-cancer, -inflammatory and -microbial activity. Previously, our group reported a mild metal-free synthesis of 1H-indazoles. Although the formation of N-methylated indazole was reported in good yield (87%), N-arylindazoles only proceeded in low yields (

Nitrogen-containing heterocycles, so-called aza-heterocycles, are widely found in natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and functional materials, and thus their synthesis has long been studied intensively. In addition, their preparation and utilization as synthons or intermediates from one to another are also developed to build higher and more complex aza-heterocycles. Some of them are also used as ligands for metal catalysts and organocatalysts. Despite many studies of the synthesis and utilization of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, a more efficient and general preparation is still required to diversify the structural backbones and improve their biological activities. Their usage as ligands and catalysts is also under expansion in various reactions.

This thesis deals with the Ti(III) catalyzed synthesis of exocyclic allenes and the development of new titanocene complexes. It is structured in six chapters: Chapter 1 is a general introduction about the generation and reactivity of [TiCp2Cl]. A review about the different [TiCp2Cl] catalyzed or promoted reactions reported to date, is included. Chapter 2 is divided in introduction and results and discussion. In the introduction, an overview about the promoted or catalyzed methodologies, already available for the synthesis of α-allenols, is included. Results and discussion section is sub-divided in other two parts. The first one describes the synthesis of carbocyclic or nitrogen heterocyclic precursors bearing a propargyl halide and a carbonyl group. Next, the [TiCp2Cl] catalyzed synthesis of exocyclic allenols is studied. Additionally, a mechanistic study through deuterium incorporation and reaction of secondary propargyl halide precursors is performed. In the second part, the preparation of oxygen precursors and its cyclization are studied. In chapter 3, there is an introduction about enantioselective syntheses using chiral titanocene catalysts. The results and discussion section deals with the enantioselective cyclization of some of the precursors previously prepared using precatalyst (R,R)-ethylenebis(4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-indenyl) titanium(IV), also known as Brintzinger complex. A formal synthesis of the alkaloid (})-stemoamide is carried out in chapter 4, being the key step for this synthesis the generation of an α-allenol derivative through a [TiCp2Cl] catalyzedcyclization. This chapter is also divided in an introduction, in which a review about the different methods of synthesis of stemoamide are included, and results and discussion. Chapter 5 compiles the project that I have developed during my research stay at University of Bonn, under the supervision of Prof. Gansauer. The target of this project was to develop an azide functionalized short linker titanocene derivative with the aim of linking it to a surface by click chemistry. The chapter is divided in introduction and results and discussion. In the introduction the different methodologies for the synthesis of titanocene derivatives are reviewed. This section also includes the background in which this project is based. Chapter 6 includes the experimental part. In this chapter all reactions performed during the development of this thesis, as well as the spectroscopic characterization of compounds, are compiled.

A multidisciplinary overview of bio-derived solvent applications, life cycle analysis, and strategies required for industrial commercialization This book provides the first and only comprehensive review of the state-of-the-science in bio-derived solvents. Drawing on their own pioneering work in the field, as well as an exhaustive survey of the world literature on the subject, the authors cover all the bases—from bio-derived solvent applications to life cycle analysis to strategies for industrial commercialization—for researchers and professional chemists working across a range of industries. In the increasingly critical area of sustainable chemistry, the search for new and better green solvents has become a top priority. Thanks to their renewability, biodegradability and low toxicity, as well as their potential to promote advantageous organic reactions, green solvents offer the promise of significantly reducing the pernicious effects of chemical processes on human health and the environment. Following an overview of the current solvents markets and the challenges and opportunities presented by bio-derived solvents, a series of dedicated chapters cover all significant classes of solvent arranged by origin and/or chemical structure. Throughout, real-world examples are used to help demonstrate the various advantages, drawbacks, and limitations of each class of solvent. Topics covered include: The commercial potential of various renewably sourced solvents, such as glycerol The various advantages and disadvantages of bio-derived versus petroleum-based solvents Renewably-sourced and waste-derived solvents in the design of eco-efficient processes Life cycle assessment and predictive methods for bio-based solvents Industrial and commercial viability of bio-based solvents now and in the years ahead Potential and limitations of methodologies involving bio-derived solvents New developments and emerging trends in the field and the shape of things to come Considering the vast potential for new and better products suggested by recent developments in this exciting field, Bio-Based Solvents will be a welcome resource among students and researchers in catalysis, organic synthesis, electrochemistry, and pharmaceuticals, as well as industrial chemists involved in manufacturing processes and formulation, and policy makers.
