Demons have always intrigued us, humans? Do they really exist, what are they really like, has someone already encountered them? Discover multiple cases of demonic encounters. Does true evil really walk the world? Is there really such a thing as demons? While this book makes no claim to prove their existence, it certainly contains some riveting testimony from those who claim to know the answer to both of those questions. It covers such stories as the infamous Son of Sam, the tragic case of Anneliese Michel, the terror of David Glatzel, and the bone-chilling account of Ronald Hunkeler-the real-life inspiration behind the Hollywood classic The Exorcist. These are just a few threads of the complex tapestry of demonic encounters that we have woven. You will find enough tales of demonic activity in this book to make your head spin-but don't let it spin too much, lest you draw the attention of an exorcist yourself! In Japanese culture, oni are ubiquitous supernatural creatures who play important roles in literature, lore, and folk belief. Characteristically ambiguous, they have been great and small, mischievous and dangerous, and ugly and beautiful over their long history. Here, author Noriko Reider presents seven oni stories from medieval Japan in full and translated for an English-speaking audience. Reider, concordant with many scholars of Japanese cultural studies, argues that to study oni is to study humanity. These tales are from an era in which many new oni stories appeared for the purpose of both entertainment and moral/religious edification and for which oni were particularly important, as they were perceived to be living entities. They reflect not only the worldview of medieval Japan but also themes that inform twenty-first-century Japanese pop and vernacular culture, including literature, manga, film, and anime. With each translation, Reider includes an introductory essay exploring the historical and cultural importance of the characters and oni manifestations within this period. Offering new insights into and interpretations of not only the stories therein but also the entire genre of Japanese ghost stories, Seven Demon Stories is a valuable companion to Reider’s 2010 volume Japanese Demon Lore. It will be of significant value to folklore scholars as well as students of Japanese culture.

In this powerful book, the renowned exorcist of Rome tells of his many experiences in his ministry as an exorcist doing battle with Satan to relieve the great suffering of people in the grip of evil. The importance of the ministry to expel demons is clearly seen in the Gospels, from the actions of the Apostles, and from Church history. Fr. Amorth allows the reader to witness the activities of the exorcist, to experience what an exorcist sees and does. He also reveals how little modern science, psychology, and medicine can do to help those under Satan's influence, and that only the power of Christ can release them from this kind of mental, spiritual or physical suffering. An Exorcist Tells His Story has been a European best-seller that has gone through numerous printings and editions. No other book today so thoroughly and concisely discusses the topic of exorcism.

Real-Life Cases of Gut-Wrenching Demon Encounters That'll Shock the Daylights out of You! With the rampant growth and exploding popularity of the occult and satanism in our societies, the spirit world has received more attention than ever before. As scary and creepy as this idea may be, there is also the belief that demonic apparitions will, on occasion, push through to our world and invade not only our homes but also our bodies. Best-Selling author Hannah J. Tidy will introduce horrific stories and experiences of demonic encounters had by normal people who've dared to play with games such as the Ouija Board. A British family went through a string of horrific tribulations that seemed to continuously escalate from bad to worse. The story began to unfold on Christmas Eve 2014, with a man, who attempted to establish contact with the dead through the board game. After the ritual, he believed that evil spirits managed to get through from the other side and take possession of his home. This caused an outburst of paranoia in the man, who then proceeded to commit a despicable act of cruelty against his pet. Prior to this event, the man had never suffered from any mental illness. He drowned the dog in a bathtub, dismembered its body, and attempted to hide the evidence by shoving the remains into a nearby drain. The neighbors noticed something wrong was going on and approach the house to investigate... You won't believe what happens next! Drawing on biographies of exceptional monks, collections of monastic sayings and stories, letters from ascetic teachers to their disciples, sermons, and community rules, Brakke crafts a compelling picture of the embattled religious celibate.
