A Demon Hunter with a gift that becomes a curse. A Demon that hunts the hunter. A thrilling tale of darkness and vengeance for fans of the TV series 'Supernatural'. "James (Lambs Among Wolves) makes a familiar trope fresh in this gripping horror novel ... a thrilling game of supernatural cat and mouse." - Publishers Weekly Drew Price has a gift, or perhaps a curse. When a demon possesses a person, Drew can see the horrific-looking demon that dwells within. This ability has made him a demon hunter, armed with the one weapon that can send these fiends back to Hell; the demon dagger. A demon named Nicobar sets its sights on punishing this hunter. It starts by taking the soul of Drew’s son, condemning the boy to life as a psychopath. This fast-paced, chilling novel follows Drew’s attempt to save his son’s soul and then use the blade to end Nicobar’s time on Earth. Some use their power for evil, while others keep theirs a secret in fear of the super powered criminals. The problem is; there are no superheroes to combat the villains. Nobody is powerful enough to stop them, and the armed forces are barely getting by. This leaves the young detective Newton Weaver in a difficult position. He intends to stop those who use their gifts for evil, but without superpowers of his own, what chances does he have? As it would happen, a fated encounter would bring him the power to stop this evil, but bring far more trouble than he bargained for. Download The Taming of the Demons Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Taming of the Demons examines mythic and ritual themes of violence, demon taming, and blood sacrifice in Tibetan Buddhism. Taking as its starting point Tibet's so-called age of fragmentation (842 to 986 C.E.), the book draws on previously unstudied manuscripts discovered in the "library cave" near Dunhuang, on the old Silk Road. These ancient documents, it argues, demonstrate how this purportedly inactive period in Tibetan history was in fact crucial to the Tibetan assimilation of Buddhism, and particularly to the spread of violent themes from tantric Buddhism into Tibet at the local and the popular levels. Having shed light on this "dark age" of Tibetan history, the second half of the book turns to how, from the late tenth century onward, the period came to play a vital symbolic role in Tibet, as a violent historical "other" against which the Tibetan Buddhist tradition defined itself. -- Georges Dreyfus
