Life for Hilda was everything but rosy growing up in a small village in the 17th century Salem, Massachusetts. Her looks were atrocious, but even though she tried to overlook the torment that was caused by it the resentment and hatred of the townspeople were eating her up inside. Finally, Hilda decided it was time for the townspeople to pay for their despicable behavior. She went to her bedroom, opened her top dresser drawer, and pulled out an old dusty book that contained spells that her aunt Helga who was a witch gave to her when she was a little girl. Hilda did not know her aunt very well because days after her aunt presented her with the spell book she was burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft. Being that Hilda was only five years old when this happened she could not comprehend why anyone would want to hurt her aunt. She thought the world was perfect and that no one died until the day her aunt did, and that turned her whole world upside down. Hilda gathered her thoughts knowing that she is now an adult and that happened many years ago, but it still haunts her to this day, and the townspeople only made the memory of her aunt’s death compound on her own hatred that was building up inside of her. Hilda wiped the tears from her eyes, opened the spell book, and said an incantation while staring into her dresser mirror, but the tears kept coming.

Audiences respond to three things in the films of Nicolas Roeg, their power, their style and the fact that they puzzle them. The author argues that all three elements are tied together, with the power of the films springing from their source in ancient mysteries.

Daddy, please! Please don’t do this!” I begged with my hands. “It’s done, Tegan. The contract is signed. You will leave tonight to be the Alpha King’s contracted mate. You will bear him an heir within three months, or you will regret it!” He roared out, his face showing me just how angry he truly was. I silently wept at the cards fate played me. I will be nothing more than a baby-making machine for the cruelest Alpha known, Ezra Hendricks. Tegan Declan is a shy she-wolf who was born deaf. She is starting a new life as a disabled wolf in a new pack. She is the new contracted mate to the Alpha King, Ezra Hendricks. “Being deaf was a quality I would hate my son to have. As a wolf, you need all your senses to be able to lead, protect, and stay alive. Lacking hearing would not benefit anyone; it could lead to mass destruction and the loss of many lives. It would not be a good quality for a king. This brought me back to my question. What makes her think she is fit to be my Queen? I want to know what she thinks her strengths are. Would they outweigh her weaknesses?” This is book 1 of the trilogy series.

This work presents an outline of the Old Norse vocabulary associated with magic and its practicioners. The research is focused on the individual words’ evaluative aspect and on their function within the texts, as well as on the narrative roles of magic as a literary motif and as a cultural concept. The literary motif of magic plays a significant role as a narrative device that enables the construction of multiple layers of meaning in the texts. The cultural concept of magic contributes to the conceptualization of various social and psychological aspects, such as the transformations of political power, gender roles, the transgression of norms, irrational impulses, and diverse forms of otherness.
