What do we do with the Bible? Does an ancient, sometimes violent and contradictory text that has been used to justify violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia and more, really have anything to teach us today? In this small but powerful book, Richard Rohr explores how we can read the bible in a contemplative and intelligent way. Focusing on Jesus' own method of using the Hebrew Scriptures, he shows us a way of interpreting the Bible that follows God's mercy, inclusion and compassionate justice, and creates a foundation for a hopeful vision from the beginning to the end of time. Warm and accessible, What Do We Do With the Bible? will give you a deeper, more genuine understanding of the Bible and transform your experience of Scripture - whether you are reading the Bible for the first time or returning to it over and over.

A fallen away Catholic, I am back with an everlasting passion, a la Jean Valjean, the protagonist in Les Miserables. I thought this would be an appropriate approach to daily readings and meditations for Christians on the go. I hope ten to twenty verses per 27 books of the New Testament plus Psalms, Proverbs and the Old Testament’s first five books [The Pentateuch] would whet the appetite of daily readers toward a more complete commitment. Why include books of the Old Testament? Because without the Old Testament, the New Testament wouldn’t make any sense. Certainly feel free to delve further into the bible should any daily reading reach out to you in a special way. It is for both Catholics and Protestants; differentiated doctrine is not included. God Bless. May Jesus give you the peace and joy He promises. So, within a year time you will have read the New Testament and more, just about.

Give Us This Day is a unique daily devotional commentary for the entire New Testament based on the ancient method called lectio divina. Lectio divina, or "divine reading," is the method used by the early church and countless Christians through the centuries to read the Scriptures to form and transform the soul more than merely to inform the mind. Rather than writing a short devotional about a particular verse from a passage, Give Us This Day deals in depth with entire passages and their contexts; rather than selecting only certain portions of the New Testament to write about, Fr. Charles has written a devotional for each and every passage of the New Testament. At the end of each day's devotional, an appropriate Prayer is offered, as well as Points for Further Reflection on the day's lesson. Each devotional concludes with a suggested Resolution to put into effect what the Spirit has stirred up in the heart of the reader during the course of his reading, meditation, and prayer. Matthew is the first volume of an eight-volume series that will provide daily devotionals for every passage in the New Testament.
