Mergers and Acquisitions can seem daunting to entrepreneurs, but it doesn't have to be. Growth through M&A is a simple process that can yield huge rewards if the numbers work, if the company is a good match, and if you are willing to accept some risk. Perhaps the most important aspects of M&A are having the desire, strategy, and structure to make it happen - if you have that then you can take your company to new heights with explosive growth and a minimum amount of money down. This book serves as a guide to effectively find good deals for entrepreneurial businesses in the 1 to 30 million dollar range. It provides a blueprint for how to tackle issues such as determining whether it's a good fit, due diligence, structuring the deal, valuation, tax issues, and how to land the perfect catch. For M&A to succeed, these matters must be addressed first. John will show you ways to find potential spots for rapid growth and accomplish, on a smaller level, what the bigger companies do. By breaking M&A down into approachable elements, you will find that your entire outlook on the topic will be transformed.

Why dominant racial and gender groups have preferential access to jobs in computing, and how feminist labor activism in computing culture can transform the field into a force that serves democracy and social justice. Cracking the Bro Code is a bold ethnographic study of sexism and racism in contemporary computing cultures theorized through the analytical frame of the “Bro Code.” Drawing from feminist anthropology and STS, Coleen Carrigan shares in this book the direct experiences of women, nonbinary individuals, and people of color, including her own experiences in tech, to show that computing has a serious cultural problem. From senior leaders in the field to undergraduates in their first year of college, participants consistently report how sexism and harassment manifest themselves in computing via values, norms, behaviors, evaluations, and policies. While other STEM fields are making strides in recruiting, retaining, and respecting women workers, computing fails year after year to do so. Carrigan connects altruism, computing, race, and gender to advance the theory that social purpose is an important factor to consider in working toward gender equity in computing. Further, she argues that transforming computing culture from hostile to welcoming has the potential to change not only who produces computing technology but also the core values of its production, with possible impacts on social applications. Cracking the Bro Code explains how digital bosses have come to operate imperiously in our society, dodging taxes and oversight, and how some programmers who look like them are enchanted with a sense of divine right. In the context of computing’s powerful influence on the world, Carrigan speculates on how the cultural mechanisms sustaining sexism, harassment, and technocracy in computing workspaces impact both those harmed by such violence as well as society at large.

Ivy League schools on average reject some 90 percent of applicants. But there is another way to get into the top colleges in the United States—the back gate—that will still see motivated students come out the front gate with an Ivy League diploma. This book is the plan B that offers you an alternative set of keys to seven of the Ivy League universities: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania (Penn), and Brown. Also covered are the so-called second tier of elite universities, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Duke, Northwestern, and University of Virginia, among others, which have highly selective admission requirements and confer social and economic benefits on par with the traditional Ivy Leagues. From extension schools to special programs for working students to online studies, the range of back gateways is remarkable for leveling the field for students of all stripes. This book provides the little-known strategies to help you succeed in enrolling in the school of your dreams.

An NPR Favorite Book of the Year Winner of the Critics’ Choice Book Award, American Educational Studies Association Winner of the Mirra Komarovsky Book Award Winner of the CEP–Mildred García Award for Exemplary Scholarship “Eye-opening...Brings home the pain and reality of on-campus poverty and puts the blame squarely on elite institutions.” —Washington Post “Jack’s investigation redirects attention from the matter of access to the matter of inclusion...His book challenges universities to support the diversity they indulge in advertising.” —New Yorker “The lesson is plain—simply admitting low-income students is just the start of a university’s obligations. Once they’re on campus, colleges must show them that they are full-fledged citizen.” —David Kirp, American Prospect “This book should be studied closely by anyone interested in improving diversity and inclusion in higher education and provides a moving call to action for us all.” —Raj Chetty, Harvard University The Ivy League looks different than it used to. College presidents and deans of admission have opened their doors—and their coffers—to support a more diverse student body. But is it enough just to admit these students? In this bracing exposé, Anthony Jack shows that many students’ struggles continue long after they’ve settled in their dorms. Admission, they quickly learn, is not the same as acceptance. This powerfully argued book documents how university policies and campus culture can exacerbate preexisting inequalities and reveals why some students are harder hit than others.
