Allen "Rocky" Lane (1909-1973) was an actor whose career spanned five decades and over 120 films, but he is best known for the western movies as Rocky Lane from 1947-1953. Along with his faithful steed Black Jack, Lane appeared in 30 films during that short period! Although his westerns were his best-known roles, Rocky Lane's most famous character is actually Mr. Ed --- for which his did the voice! Buck Jones (born Charles Frederick Gebhart, 1891-1942) was one of the top cowboy stars, not only of the silent films of the 1920s, but the talkies of the 1930s. Before becoming an actor he was a real cowboy, served in World War I, and worked as a stuntman on movie sets. What many people don't know is that the air rifle with the "compass in the stock and this thing which tells time" from the popular movie A Christmas Story was not a Red Ryder BB-gun, but actually a Buck Jones Daisy Air Rifle! Rex Elvie Allen (1920-1999) was a little late to the singing cowboy scene, but made up for it in a hurry. Allen had a successful career in movies during the 1950's , and also as a recording artist. A top-ten box office draw for a while, Allen had the distinction of making the last successful singing cowboy film in 1954. Allen went on to TV appearances in the 50s and 60s, and is well-known for mush of his voice-over work, including the narrator of The Incredible Journey and Charlotte's Web.
