Not being a witch isn't an option when you're Coven Born.I wasn't raised a witch.I didn't even know I was coven-born until my parents died, allegedly from a curse. After being uprooted from San Francisco and moved across the country to Upstate New York to live with my uncle, I was thrust into a world of witches and magick.Yeah - real witches and real magick. IKR?Now, my eccentric uncle believes I have some kind of rare magick and the only way to find out is by sending me to the prestigious Thirteen Covens Academy where I will be trained to' meet my potential', whatever that means. Just what I needed - a school full of rich, snooty kids. I have bigger things to worry about than my alleged rare witch powers.First-there's Carrie Ambrose-the resident mean girl who calls me 'charity case' and keeps trying to get a lock of my hair.Second-the fact that Blaine Adams, the hottest, most popular guy at school asked me out, much to the fury of every popular girl in a one-hundred-mile radius.Third-the rumors that my entire family is cursed and the only reason I'm alive is because the coven is doing spells to protect me.My only ally (and that's being generous) is the queen of the outcasts, Lisa Spears, who's "serving time" at the academy after doing something the coven high council didn't like. Despite the mark she wears, or the insults from the other students - she has an entourage of hot guys who follow her everywhere, including the awkward, nerdy guy Eric-who's always flirting with me. And the awkward, goth guy, Gary-who's always flirting with me. And the awkward metal-head, Josh-who's always flirting with me.I'll be eighteen in a few weeks-old enough to decide if I want to stick with the Academy until I graduate, or leave my previously estranged family and its legacy behind. This isn't going to be an easy choice.***This is a slow burn RH, Dark UF.***Want MORE Thirteen Covens Academy?Coven Society (June 2020)Coven Cursed (September 2020)This is a spinoff series of Fourteen Tales of Thirteen Covens: Thirteen Covens: Bloodlines Part One (The first 7 books, includes A Rising Damp, Temple Apophis, Lucifer's Haven, Shadow Marbas, The Watch, Ba'al Collective, and Order of Eurynome) Thirteen Covens: Darkness (And OTS-Covens crossover novel) Thirteen Covens: Bloodlines Part Two (The next 7 books, includes Blackrose Coven, Temple Dagon, Cult of Lucifuge, Circle of the Black Moon (forthcoming), Ashtaroth Briarwood (forthcoming), Temple of the Magi (forthcoming) and Tiamat Leviathan (forthcoming).)

Since it first emerged from Britain’s punk-rock scene in the late 1970s, goth subculture has haunted postmodern culture and society, reinventing itself inside and against the mainstream. Goth: Undead Subculture is the first collection of scholarly essays devoted to this enduring yet little examined cultural phenomenon. Twenty-three essays from various disciplines explore the music, cinema, television, fashion, literature, aesthetics, and fandoms associated with the subculture. They examine goth’s many dimensions—including its melancholy, androgyny, spirituality, and perversity—and take readers inside locations in Los Angeles, Austin, Leeds, London, Buffalo, New York City, and Sydney. A number of the contributors are or have been participants in the subculture, and several draw on their own experiences. The volume’s editors provide a rich history of goth, describing its play of resistance and consumerism; its impact on class, race, and gender; and its distinctive features as an “undead” subculture in light of post-subculture studies and other critical approaches. The essays include an interview with the distinguished fashion historian Valerie Steele; analyses of novels by Anne Rice, Poppy Z. Brite, and Nick Cave; discussions of goths on the Internet; and readings of iconic goth texts from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to James O’Barr’s graphic novel The Crow. Other essays focus on gothic music, including seminal precursors such as Joy Division and David Bowie, and goth-influenced performers such as the Cure, Nine Inch Nails, and Marilyn Manson. Gothic sexuality is explored in multiple ways, the subjects ranging from the San Francisco queercore scene of the 1980s to the increasing influence of fetishism and fetish play. Together these essays demonstrate that while its participants are often middle-class suburbanites, goth blurs normalizing boundaries even as it appears as an everlasting shadow of late capitalism. Enter a world of magic, desire, and danger. Introducing Raven’s Landing, a sleepy Cornish harbour town, a secret sanctuary where witches have lived in harmony for centuries—until now. The secret witch community in Raven’s Landing are at risk of exposure, throwing the coven into chaos. Aveline and Eben are devoted friends, but Eben wants more—and deep down, so does Aveline. Something in the past is holding them apart. Eben Ayotunde is a stoic, gifted male witch, one who learned his magic in a baptism of fire in his homeland. He is humble and hardworking, but when provoked strikes like lightning, with fire and brimstone as his tools. Eben came to Raven’s Landing to be at one with people of his kind, but his attraction to Aveline allows him no peace. When Aveline is in danger Eben has no other choice but to protect her—even if it risks the disapproval of The Witches’ Council, and the wrath of the Lord of the Underworld. Aveline Pascoe, the respected local librarian, mourns the loss of the academic life she had before she learned she was magical, and that’s what’s holding her back from loving Eben. When Aveline’s ex arrives—a professor who scorns the supernatural—to take apart the mythology and folklore of Raven’s Landing for the sake of a documentary, Aveline is forced to face her past, and defend what she has become. In doing so she learns what is worth defending, and who is destined to be her true hero.

A guide to invocations, rituals, and histories at the intersection of magic and feminism, as informed by history's witches--and the sociopolitical culture that gave rise to them. When you start looking for witches, you find them everywhere. As seekers and practitioners reclaim and restore magic to its rightful place among powerful forces for social, personal, and political transformation, more people than ever are claiming the identity of "Witch." But our knowledge of witchcraft and magic has been marred by erasure, sensationalism, and sterilization, the true stories of history's witches left untold. Through meditations, stories, and practices, authors Risa Dickens and Amy Torok offer an intersectional, contemporary lens for uncovering and reconnecting with feminist witch history. Sharing traditions from all over the world--from Harlem to Haiti, Oaxaca to Mesopotamia--Missing Witches introduces readers to figures like Monica Sjoo, HP Blavatsky, Maria Sabina, and Enheduanna, shedding light on their work and the cultural and sociopolitical contexts that shaped it. Structured around the 8 sabbats of the Wheel of the Year, each chapter includes illustrations by Amy Torok, as well as invocations, rituals, and offerings that incorporate the authors' own wisdom, histories, and journeys of trauma, loss, and empowerment. Missing Witches offers an inside look at the vital stories of women who have practiced--and lived--magic.
