Thorneycroft gets the boy to hospital in time to save his life, but a few days later he is informed by DCI Liam Connor that there had been another, and fatal, attack. Jock Robbins, public benefactor, had died from eating poisonous mushrooms supplied by the same delicatessen. Jock's sister receives a card bearing the number 5. The Tifflins receive card number 4 and a third victim is sent card number 3. It seems a poisoner is committing serial attacks with a view to destroying the delicatessen's international organization. Thorneycroft joins the police investigation as a consultant and comes to believe the attacks could be aimed not at the rich and powerful Lenards who have made many enemies. Will victims 2 and 1 be chosen from their ranks? Will Thorneycroft and Connor identify the poisoner before the Countdown Murder is made complete?

Arresting a Blanton was always going to be bad news, but things are about to get even worse for Sheriff Milt Kovak. Everyone in Prophesy County knows that you don’t mess with the dim-witted, in-bred Blantons. So when Milt gets a call to say that Darrell Blanton has shot dead his wife, he’s expecting a rough ride. Arresting Darrell and putting him in the slammer may have been surprisingly easy, but things are about to get a whole lot worse. Eunice Blanton, Darrell’s mama, takes a dim view of her son’s arrest and decides to storm the Longbranch Inn where Milt’s partner, Jean McDonnell is hosting a bachelorette party for Holly Humphries. With the women taken hostage, Eunice’s terms are – unsurprisingly – simple: release her boy or a hostage gets shot every ten minutes. But there’s a problem: Darrell has been found dead in his cell, with not a mark on him . . .

Download Zero Hour: A Countdown to the Collapse of South Africa's Apartheid System Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This enlightening book focuses on the history of how the ethnic groups of Africa, eventually joined by white colonizers from Europe, created the seedbed for the hateful apartheid system in Southern Africa. The reader learns how apartheid began, the dehumanizing effects it had on the black population, and how it was finally abolished in its ‘zero hour’ in 1994. Written by historian, writer and researcher Geoffrey Hebdon, this is the second in a series that covers the experience of a British citizen who emigrated to South Africa during that era, and records in vivid detail his responses to the apartheid system and how South Africa and neighbouring countries evolved after apartheid was abolished. As well as the first European settlers and the white Afrikaners’ attempted enslavement of the black population, the book also covers the Zulu wars, the Anglo-Boer wars and individuals who supported apartheid such as Cecil Rhodes and the whites-only National Party of South Africa. Also covered are prominent leaders of the African National Congress (ANC) and the black revolutionaries who fought against apartheid, many of whom gave their lives or served life sentences for their “struggle”, including Nelson Mandela, who became South Africa’s first black president after serving years in prison.
