Download Core Conservatism: Edmund Burke’s Landmark Definition Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
CORE CONSERVATISM: Edmund Burke’s Landmark Definition asserts the classic view that Edmund Burke defined the foundations of modern conservative thought. It does so by citing extensively the historic evidence provided by Burke himself in his Reflections on the Revolution in France. CORE CONSERVATISM defies the revisionist doubts of academic historians like Dr Emily Jones in her 2019 paperback, “Edmund Burke and the invention of Modern Conservatism 1830-1914”. CORE CONSERVATISM makes the full text of Edmund Burke’s classic statement of Conservative thinking accessible and more comprehensible by providing • A Structure and Contents index to the 96,000 word text written originally as a continuous letter without any chapters or headings • A universal number referencing system for the 400 paragraphs of the original text • An Introduction for those with no previous knowledge of Edmund Burke or his Reflections • A 10,000 word summary of Edmund Burke’s political philosophy, citing extensively from Edmund Burke’s own Reflections • The author’s personal distillation of Edmund Burke’s thinking in his Reflections to 3 Primary Principles and 10 key tenets of modern Conservative doctrine CORE CONSERVATISM is essential reading for both convinced Conservatives and for students of politics and history. It highlights the critical role of Christianity in the formation of Conservative thinking in the English speaking nations and challenges the Materialistic worldview of today’s western intelligentsia.

Download Defining Conservatism Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
A dedicated young Conservative, Jonathan Krohn presents Conservative philosophy's basic tenets in this remarkably earnest and impeccably reasoned primer. This book, clear and informative, is a history lesson, a manifesto, and a roadmap for the future. Anyone interested in the basic differences between Conservative and Liberal thought will find Krohn's writing at once compelling, informative, intelligent, and--for those who do not agree with him--in some respects controversial.

Download 11 Principles of a Reagan Conservative Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Perhaps no other president's name is invoked by politicians as much as Ronald Reagan's. Every election, as presidential hopefuls jockey for the Republican nomination, each one claims to be a Reagan conservative. But are these candidates truly carrying on the mantle of Ronald Reagan, or are they abusing the memory of our great president? What did Ronald Reagan really believe? In 11 Principles of a Reagan Conservative, biographer Paul Kengor analyzes Ronald Reagan's speeches and actions to paint a full, accurate picture of his beliefs. Kengor identifies these principles that lie at the crux of Reagan's conservatism; Freedom, Faith, Family, Sanctity and Dignity of Human Life, American Exceptionalism, The Founders' Wisdom and Vision, Lower Taxes, Limited Government, Peace Through Strength, Anti-Communism, and Belief in the Individual. And it is through these principles that Reagan's modern emulators may create a successful, conservative future. Many a politician has asked: What would Reagan do if he were president now? Where would Reagan stand on today's issues? Who is the next Ronald Reagan? Paul Kengor dissects Reagan's presidency and provides decisive conclusions. The answers to some of these questions may surprise conservatives and liberals alike.

Download American Conservative Thought Since World War II Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This highly readable work reviews previous definitions of American conservatism and then posits the two fundamental ideas that, held in tandem, form the core of contemporary conservative thought: the belief that human nature is unchanging and unalterable and the belief in the existence of an objective moral order independent of man's knowledge or perception of it. The remaining five chapters examine the influence of the core ideas on such concepts as authority, freedom, government and economics, community, and change and tradition.

Download Ideology in America Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Public opinion in the United States contains a paradox. The American public is symbolically conservative: it cherishes the symbols of conservatism and is more likely to identify as conservative than as liberal. Yet at the same time, it is operationally liberal, wanting government to do and spend more to solve a variety of social problems. This book focuses on understanding this contradiction. It argues that both facets of public opinion are real and lasting, not artifacts of the survey context or isolated to particular points in time. By exploring the ideological attitudes of the American public as a whole, and the seemingly conflicted choices of individual citizens, it explains the foundations of this paradox. The keys to understanding this large-scale contradiction, and to thinking about its consequences, are found in Americans' attitudes with respect to religion and culture and in the frames in which elite actors describe policy issues.

Download Right-Wing Critics of American Conservatism Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The American conservative movement as we know it faces an existential crisis as the nation's demographics shift away from its core constituents—older white middle-class Christians. It is the American conservatism that we don't know that concerns George Hawley in this book. During its ascendancy, leaders within the conservative establishment have energetically policed the movement’s boundaries, effectively keeping alternative versions of conservatism out of view. Returning those neglected voices to the story, Right-Wing Critics of American Conservatism offers a more complete, complex, and nuanced account of the American right in all its dissonance in history and in our day. The right-wing intellectual movements considered here differ both from mainstream conservatism and from each other when it comes to fundamental premises, such as the value of equality, the proper role of the state, the importance of free markets, the place of religion in politics, and attitudes toward race. In clear and dispassionate terms, Hawley examines localists who exhibit equal skepticism toward big business and big government, paleoconservatives who look to the distant past for guidance and wish to turn back the clock, radical libertarians who are not content to be junior partners in the conservative movement, and various strains of white supremacy and the radical right in America. In the Internet age, where access is no longer determined by the select few, the independent right has far greater opportunities to make its many voices heard. This timely work puts those voices into context and historical perspective, clarifying our understanding of the American right—past, present, and future.

Download The Dilemmas of American Conservatism Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
In the second half of the twentieth century, American conservatism emerged from the shadow of New Deal liberalism and developed into a movement exerting considerable influence on the formulation and execution of public policy in the United States. During that period, the political philosophers who provided the intellectual foundations for the American conservative movement were John H. Hallowell, Eric Voegelin, Leo Strauss, Richard Weaver, Russell Kirk, Robert Nisbet, John Courtney Murray, Friedrich Hayek, and Willmoore Kendall. By offering a comprehensive analysis of their thoughts and beliefs, The Dilemmas of American Conservatism both illuminates the American conservative imagination and reveals its most serious contradictions. The contributing authors question whether a core set of conservative principles can be determined based on the frequently diverging perspectives of these key philosophers.

Download The Righteous Mind Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The acclaimed social psychologist challenges conventional thinking about morality, politics, and religion in a way that speaks to conservatives and liberals alike—a “landmark contribution to humanity’s understanding of itself” (The New York Times Book Review). Drawing on his twenty-five years of groundbreaking research on moral psychology, Jonathan Haidt shows how moral judgments arise not from reason but from gut feelings. He shows why liberals, conservatives, and libertarians have such different intuitions about right and wrong, and he shows why each side is actually right about many of its central concerns. In this subtle yet accessible book, Haidt gives you the key to understanding the miracle of human cooperation, as well as the curse of our eternal divisions and conflicts. If you’re ready to trade in anger for understanding, read The Righteous Mind.
