Marine Life of the Maldives is an identification guide for divers, snorkellers and beachcombers in the Maldives and wider Indian Ocean region. It includes all the main marine invertebrates, marine plants, mammals, reptiles and birds. The update of this popular book has been carried out by the associate authors after the death of author Neville Coleman in 2012. It includes a full revision of scientific and common names as well as a revision of the Phylum Cnidaria (Stingers), which includes the Stony corals. A comprehensive introduction outlines the main changes to the marine environment since the book was first published in 2000. Beneath the warm, clear waters of the Maldives lies a wonderful world of extraordinary sea creatures. In Marine Life of the Maldives – Indian Ocean this truly magnificent spectacle is captured in 344 pages of vivid photographs with authoritative text by one of Australia’s leading Marine Naturalists. Although this book is based on scientific classification, its primary function is to encourage greater awareness among divers on a level that everyone can understand. The text is informative and educational and illustrates almost every major group of marine invertebrates. It is supported by a full Glossary to explain references to scientific terms. By using this book as a guide, divers can recognize and understand more about the many creatures seen on the reefs and participate in their discovery. It provides the reader with an opportunity to explore previously unknown life forms and opens a whole new adventure into the world of marine invertebrates. Marine Life of the Maldives also provides teachers of marine biology with a useful reference for conducting marine courses and ecological surveys. First published in 2000 as Marine Life of the Maldives. Reprinted with corrections in 2012 as Marine Life of the Maldives, Divers and Snorkellers Guide. Published again in 2019 as Marine Life of the Maldives, Indian Ocean.

Excerpt from The Coral Reefs of the Maldives IT had always been my intention, on the completion of my explorations of the atoll and coral regions Of the Pacific, to make an expedition to the Maldives, the only great group of atolls I had not visited, and which promised interesting results; the coral reefs of the Maldives differing radi cally, according to the charts, from every region I had examined.l We spent part of December, 1901, and January, 1902, in exploring the Maldives. The steamer Amra, chartered from the British India Steam Naviga tion Company, proved a most serviceable vessel for examining the coral reefs of the Maldives.2 She was commanded by Captain William Pigott, R. N. R., who proved himself a most careful navigator among the maze of atolls through which we steamed for over sixteen hundred miles. Both he and the Officers of the Amra showed the greatest interest in the objects of the Expedition. Captain Pigott took charge of the sounding machine, and himself superintended all the soundings we took (more than eighty in number); he became exceedingly skilful at this work. Several of the deeper soundings were taken successfully under most trying circum stances. The Amra was equipped with a deep-sea Lucas sounding machine built for me by the Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Company of London. The machine difiers radically from the American type of sounding machine developed by Captain Sigsbee with which I was familiar, and which I had in commission on all my former expeditions. This is the last of the series of monographs I shall publish on Coral Reefs, and I hope, as soon as practicable, to give a re'sume' and connected account of the results obtained during my expeditions to all the important coral regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Nudibranchs of the Coral Triangle became the only guide to nudibranchs on the market with an up-to-date 2022 taxonomy after its major update (November 2022) This book is a field guide, an assistant for the identification of nudibranchs species in the region. It is designed for divers, underwater photographers. The book presents 1060+ species nudibranchs that can be found and photographed in depths and regions accessible to recreational diving. Photographs, showing color variations and age differences are included. A lot of species covered by this guide have never before appeared in field guides or popular books. Compact text blocks provide information about Common name, Latin name, family, geographic distribution, size, and the most distinctive features. An extensive photo index at the beginning of the book helps you to find the right group of nudibranchs, especially for readers who have not yet mastered their names. Nudibranchs or sea slugs occur throughout the world’s oceans and are present in many marine habitats. The greatest diversity of species is found in the Indo-Pacific tropics with a concentration of species within the Coral Triangle (CT), encompassing the waters of six Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Malaysia, Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands. This global epicenter of marine biodiversity covers only 1.6 percent of the planet’s oceanic area, but attracts an increasing number of divers and underwater photographers, including nudibranch lovers.
