A picture book biography that will inspire readers to dance to their own beats! Singer, dancer, actress, and independent dame, Josephine Baker felt life was a performance. She lived by her own rules and helped to shake up the status quo with wild costumes and a you-can’t-tell-me-no attitude that made her famous. She even had a pet leopard in Paris! From bestselling children’s biographer Jonah Winter and two-time Caldecott Honoree Marjorie Priceman comes a story of a woman the stage could barely contain. Rising from a poor, segregated upbringing, Josephine Baker was able to break through racial barriers with her own sense of flair and astonishing dance abilities. She was a pillar of steel with a heart of gold—all wrapped up in feathers, sequins, and an infectious rhythm.

This book is a collection of favorite recipes of the Josephine Company Grants Pass Camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. We are located in Josephine County, Oregon. Some of these recipes have been handed down for generations; even back to our pioneer ancestors, but many we got from watching our mothers and grandmothers prepare meals and those oh so delicious treats! Many of these have never been written down; just passed down, sometimes by trial and error, from generation to generation. Also included are some of our favorite modern recipes. Through this book we would like to share our recipes, some of them a secret until now, with our fellow bakers and cooks, as well as friends and family. So you may ask, what do our Utah Pioneer histories have to do with recipes? Each month, after our meeting has concluded, we have a potluck luncheon. It gives us a chance to socialize and share a nice meal together. That's when we decided to write a cookbook so that we can share these recipes with you. We hope you'll find them as tasty as we do; you'll find something for everyone. Enjoy!
