This two-volume set constitutes the post-conference proceedings of the 4th EAI International Conference on Advanced Hybrid Information Processing, ADHIP 2020, held in Binzhou, China, in September 2020. Due to COVID-19 the conference was held virtually. The 89 papers presented were selected from 190 submissions and focus on theory and application of hybrid information processing technology for smarter and more effective research and application. The theme of ADHIP 2020 was “Industrial applications of aspects with big data”. The papers are named in topical sections as follows: Industrial application of multi-modal information processing; Industrialized big data processing; Industrial automation and intelligent control; Visual information processing.

Neural Networks for Perception, Volume 2: Computation, Learning, and Architectures explores the computational and adaptation problems related to the use of neuronal systems, and the corresponding hardware architectures capable of implementing neural networks for perception and of coping with the complexity inherent in massively distributed computation. This book addresses both theoretical and practical issues related to the feasibility of both explaining human perception and implementing machine perception in terms of neural network models. The text is organized into two sections. The first section, computation and learning, discusses topics on learning visual behaviors, some of the elementary theory of the basic backpropagation neural network architecture, and computation and learning in the context of neural network capacity. The second section is on hardware architecture. The chapters included in this part of the book describe the architectures and possible applications of recent neurocomputing models. The Cohen-Grossberg model of associative memory, hybrid optical/digital architectures for neorocomputing, and electronic circuits for adaptive synapses are some of the subjects elucidated. Neuroscientists, computer scientists, engineers, and researchers in artificial intelligence will find the book useful.

The textbook aims to present general relativity and modern cosmology in a friendly form suitable for advanced undergraduates. The text begins with a self-contained introduction to the theory of manifolds and then develops the tools needed to understand curved spaces and curved spacetimes. Special relativity can then be understood in a geometrical context, bypassing some of the difficulties students have when encountering relativistic effects (e.g. time dilation and length contraction) for the first time. The theory of curvature and its effects leads to the Einstein field equations and its classic tests in the precession of Mercury and the deflection of starlight. The second part of the book covers modern cosmology, starting with the evolution equations for the expansion of the universe. The microwave background, evidence for dark matter, and the clustering of galaxies are examined in detail.

Higher circuit densities, increasingly more complex application ohjectives, and advanced packaging technologies have suhstantially increased the need to incorporate defect-tolerance and fault-tolerance in the design of VLSI and WSI systems. The goals of defect-tolerance and fault-tolerance are yield enhancement and improved reliahility. The emphasis on this area has resulted in a new field of interdisciplinary scientific research. I n fact, advanced methods of defect/fault control and tolerance are resulting in enhanced manufacturahility and productivity of integrated circuit chips, VI.SI systems, and wafer scale integrated circuits. In 1987, Dr. W. Moore organized an "International Workshop on Designing for Yield" at Oxford University. Edited papers of that workshop were published in reference [II. The participants in that workshop agreed that meetings of this type should he con tinued. preferahly on a yearly hasis. It was Dr. I. Koren who organized the "IEEE Inter national Workshop on Defect and Fault Tolerance in VLSI Systems" in Springfield Massachusetts the next year. Selected papers from that workshop were puhlished as the first volume of this series [21.
