Le changement dans la philosophie politique des gouvernements dès les années 1980-1990 et les réductions des dépenses publiques qui en ont résulté ont imposé le recours à de nouvelles formes d'innovation dans le secteur public, orientées essentiellement vers la société. L'aggravation des problèmes sociaux et environnementaux ces dernières décennies a accru l'intérêt accordé à l'innovation sociale en tant que solution envisageable, afin de résoudre ces problèmes de manière pertinente et durable.Notre thèse vise à comprendre comment les collectivités territoriales soutiennent le processus d'innovation sociale afin de favoriser le changement social au niveau local. Basés sur une approche qualitative par étude de cas multiple, nos résultats montrent que le processus d'innovation sociale peut être représenté par un modèle composé de deux phases : "Formation et test des idées", "Mise en œuvre et diffusion des idées".En outre, nous identifions les facteurs influençant le processus d'innovation sociale dans le secteur public local. Ils sont regroupés en quatre catégories : facteurs d'ordre contextuel, facteurs individuels et organisationnels, facteurs relationnels et facteurs liés à la nature de l'innovation sociale. La recherche met l'accent sur les notions de territoire, de réseau, de participation des usagers et de l'évolution du leadership public comme caractéristiques de l'innovation sociale en lien avec les collectivités territoriales.Enfin, cette thèse fournit des implications pertinentes aux décideurs politiques, dont territoriaux, et aux managers publics territoriaux afin que les collectivités territoriales puissent réaliser leurs missions en matière d'innovation sociale.

The two essays in this classic work by sociologist Erving Goffman deal with the calculative, gamelike aspects of human interaction. Goffman examines the strategy of words and deeds; he uses the term "strategic interaction" to describe gamelike events in which an individual's situation is fully dependent on the move of one's opponent and in which both players know this and have the wit to use this awareness for advantage.
