Excerpt: ...previously canvassed and compiled; but if said returning oflicers shall not be fully satisfied thereof, it shall be their duty to examine further testimony in regard thereto, and to this end they shall have power to send for persons and papers. If, after such examination, the said returning oflicem shall be convinced that said riot, tumult, acts of violence, intimidation, armed disturbance, bribery, or corrupt influences did materially interfere with the purity and freedom of the election at such poll or voting place, or did prevent a suficient number of the qualified electors thereat from registering and voting, to materially change the result of the election, then the said returning ofiicers shall not canvass or compile the statement of the votes of such poll or voting place, but shall exclude it from their returns. The returning oflicers may appoint such clerks as may be necessary, for a length of time not to exceed thirty days, who shall be paid $5 per day each for the time actually served, which time shall be specified in a written account, subscribed and sworn to by such clerk, and approved by the returning ofiicers. The auditor of public accounts shall issue his warrant upon the treasury for the amount of such account so subscribed and sworn to and approved. " SEO 66.
