Excerpt from Catalogue of a Private Collection of Colonial and Continental Paper Money: Including a Collection of Confederate Paper Money, Formed by a Gentlemen of Raleigh, N. C This collection, the property of a private gentleman, embraces many rare and choice Specimens of Colonial and Continental Paper Money, one of the most interest? Ing of'which is the Vermont note (lot 40 of the cata logue), issued Feb, 1781; the motto, Vermont calls for Justice, and the chain, containing thirteen connected links and an additional one, lonely in its separation, is very suggestive, while the rarity of the note makes it a desirable acquisition to the collector. Among the many rarities are the following: North Carolina $3 note, April 2, 1776 (beehive); the New Hampshire 10 pence note, June 28, 1776; New Jersey note, April 16, 17 64 (seldom. Found in such good condition); New Jersey 85 note, June 9, 1780 (extremely rare - found in but few collections); New Hampshire note, Aug. 24, 1775 (also very rare), signed by Nich'. Gilman; North Carolina 825 note, May 10, 1780: Georgia $30 note, May 4, 1778; Continental notes, Sept. 26, 1778 (complete set printed on green paper); Massachusetts (sword in hand) notes, Dec. 7, 1775 (very rare), and many other scarce, fine and inte resting notes. The collection of Confederate Paper Money was formed by a gentleman residing in Raleigh, N. C., who devoted considerable time and invested money, Without stint, to complete his series of all notes issued by the State of North Carolina during the, the rebellion, and in this way obtained many other state and local notes. It is seldom that an opportunity offers for buyers to purchase choice specimens of paper money at a public sale, and the com piler feels confident that the notes willfin every instance, bear out the description and give to distant bidders per ect satisfaction.
