Excerpt from Collections for a History of Staffordshire, Vol. 6: Part II, 1886 For the most part the Catalogue is a dry and concise statement as to the nature or contents of each item or parcel of items. But here and there a few notes have seemed necessary, such as those explanatory of the Common and Fabric Rolls, or of the different classes of Visitations. In cataloguing the valuable Chapter Act Books, I have also added a summary of some of their more important and interesting contents, taken from notes that I have made at different times when consulting them. Excerpt from Collections for a History of Staffordshire, Vol. 20: 1899 Evidence was to convince us that some of Canon Bridgeman's conclusions could not be maintained, and it became necessary for us thoroughly to revise the whole, and virtually to re-write a large part, of that portion of the work which we had hoped was almost ready for the press. If it had not been for General Wrottesley's kind encouragement and promise of help in case of need, we should hardly have ventured to attempt so much larger and more responsible an undertaking than we had anticipated; and we desire to take this opportunity of expressing to him our grateful thanks for his valuable advice and ever ready help, of which we have not hesitated to avail ourselves.
