This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1922 edition. Excerpt: ... Its roster shows an active membership of 3,397 Brethren. We are in receipt of a fraternal communication of last October from the Curator of the Masonic museum established by this jurisdiction many years ago. It represents undoubtedly the largest collection of its kind in Germany. Over 20,000 different articles of Masonic value and interest, exclusive of a library of over 7,000 volumes, prove the interest of the Bavarian Grand Lodge in Masonic history and the development of the Royal Art. It has been suggested that perhaps American collectors of Masonic relics might wish to exchange duplicates with those on hand in Bayreuth, and this desire of our Bavarian Brethren has likewise been submitted to our Committee on Antiquities, and we hope it will work out to the mutual advantage of all parties in interest. Ve understand that the Bavarian library alone has on hand 1,500 duplicates which it is willing to exchange. ATTITUDE TOWARD THE GENEVA CONFERENCE. The Grand Master of the Netherlands, under date of January 15, 1921, had written an informal letter to Da. PARET, then Grand Master of the Grand Lodge "Zur Sonne," suggesting participation in the international Masonic conference, called by the Swiss Grand Lodge "Alpina" and to be held at Geneva. Da. Pani-: 'r's answer, under date of February 11, 1921, expressed the sympathetic attitude of his Grand Lodge toward the proposition, but deemed it necessary to present a candid statement explaining the position of his Grand Lodge as a body composed of German Freemasons. This statement is of unusual importance, Masonically, as it sets forth the conditions which necessarily must be made plain before oilicial representation at such an international conference can be...

Excerpt from Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York, One Hundred and Thirtieth Annual Communication: May, 1911 Each Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge may be thus characterized. We hail our friends from every corner of the State. We enjoy their fellowship in the discharge of the duties that bring us together. We say good-bye in the hope of meeting again; but, alas! To many it is the final salutation on earth. How cold and empty does language seem compared with the thoughts which can never be uttered - never escape beyond the sacred portals of the soul - as we recall the forms of those to whom one year ago we bade good-bye. May their last sleep be sound and sweet beneath the blue and bending skies! May the song bird find a new note of sorrow in his throat, for'the passing of these, our Brethren, and a new burst of joy that they have gone to a happier and better land! Excerpt from Reprint of the Minutes of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Vol. 4: 1817 to 1822 Volume IV. Of the Reprint of the Minutes brings the work down to the year 1822. The period covered by this volume is a very important one to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. The craft sustained a severe loss in the destruction of the Masonic Hall on Chestnut street by fire in the year 1819, an account of which is given in this volume. Steps were taken at once to build the second Chestnut Street Hall, and all the arrangements were recorded very fully in the Minutes. The new Hall was dedicated and consecrated on November 1, 1820, with great pomp and cere mony, and the account given is very full and complete. Over thirty Lodges received warrants during the period covered by this volume. The reports of the committees appointed on various matters are given in full in the Minutes, and many of them are of more than ordinary interest to the reader, and the same can be said of many of the resolutions on different questions that were presented for consideration. The import ant reports and resolutions are all indexed. The question of the establishment of a General Grand Lodge was discussed and acted on by the Grand Lodge, and the first steps were taken on a number of important matters, among them being the establishment of a Masonic Library, a Charity Fund, the appointment of District Deputy Grand Masters and the organization of a School of Instruction. The Committee is indebted to Washington Lodge, No. 59, of Philadelphia, for the plates of the illustrations that appear in this volume, as well as the illustrations of the different Masonic Halls that have been printed in the former volumes.
