At the age of fifteen, Earl Russells life was ripped out from under him. His uncle, the only father he ever knew, banished Earl from the only home the boy had ever known. Earl found himself a teen outcast in a state of despair that sent him spinning without direction or hope for years. His vision and dreams blurred by tears, he walked blindly through life. Desperate, he turned to the military for salvation and structure. When he was eighteen, he earned the distinction of being one of the youngest platoon sergeants in the Korean War. During his service, he traveled to thirty-six countries. In this memoir, he now shares some of the highlights and heartbreaks of a young man thrown into war and travel, including his time served in a Libyan prison for the crime of holding a womans hand in public. For Earl the world was a dazzling adventure. This collection of true tales of one mans journeys is, at times, humorous, amorous, and poignant. Often, the world traveler and soldier felt like a dog chasing his own tail. In the end, his travels brought him back to the hills and mountains of his childhood home in Georgia. He left as an unsettled boy and returned a wiser man. These are his stories.

Download I'm Going to Catch My Tail! Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
A rambunctious kitty wakes up with a mission: he is going to finally catch his tail! Through mountains of toilet paper, under the covers, into the laundry basket (with a quick stop at the litter box), and beyond, the tireless kitty continues his never-ending chase until the unexpected motive for his mission is revealed. Debut author and illustrator Jimbo Matison uses his bright, lively illustrations and minimal text to tell a raucous story full of classic “cat humor” and high jinks that will leave young readers (and cat lovers of all ages) laughing out loud.

A sad little mermaid trades her voice for legs to get a stupid human prince to fall in love with her. What a crock. That wasn't how my story went at all. That's not even how mermaids work. We can have legs whenever we want them. We just mostly choose not to because we dislike people who live on land. I never would have set foot there, but I needed to kill a druid king. Yeah, the little mermaid didn't come on land to fall in love with a prince. She went there to kill a king. There are rules. Certain waters are off limits for the land dwellers. He came to my home in a large ship and killed several of my friends. The sea council might want to let that slide, but he killed my sister, so now I have to end him. Getting close enough to the king to kill him is going to be hard. He has three sons that could be my answer to living through this. They aren't bad for druid royalty. Two of them are kindle and gentle. The other is a little mean in a way I can appreciate. Still, I don't trust any druid. Out of all the supernatural creatures on land, they are the worst. A lot of their magic requires bits from living beings and their ethics on getting those aren't exactly sound. I might like his sons, but this can't go anywhere. Most people tend to balk at relationships when you kill their father. I won't stop until it's done. I owe it to my sister.

Download Zeus, Dog of Chaos Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Kristin O’Donnell Tubb, the award-winning author of A Dog Like Daisy, delivers another heartwarming must-read middle grade novel for dog lovers. Equal parts funny and poignant, this book from the point of view of the service dog, Zeus, is perfect for fans of Max and A Dog Called Homeless. Zeus comes from a long line of heroic dogs, and he dreams of glory as a K9 commander. But he receives a much more dangerous assignment—middle school! And as all good service dogs know, the only way to get through hostile territory is by being invisible. Zeus’s new human, Madden, is diabetic, and he wants to be invisible, too. That’s hard to do with a huge German Shepherd at his side to alert him when his blood sugar drops. And it’s even harder because Madden makes this noise called music that draws attention. Zeus’s mission becomes clear: he must destroy music. While Zeus’s training prepared him for his most important job—keeping Madden safe—he discovers the human world is complicated. As Madden dreams of winning the state band competition and tries to reconnect with his mom, the lieutenant, Zeus must learn that, sometimes, you need to stand out to fulfill your duty.

Download 101 Stories for Enhancing Happiness and Well-Being Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Research shows us clearly what works in counseling and psychotherapy. Often by the time clients enter a therapist’s office they have been told what to do—often soundly and sensibly—by well-meaning family, friends, and health professionals. The challenge for the effective therapist is how to communicate these same, sound messages in ways that the client is more likely to take on board, act on, and benefit from. 101 Stories for Enhancing Happiness and Well-Being harnesses the power of stories to translate the research from positive psychology into effective and practical therapeutic interventions. It communicates the core processes for enhancing happiness and well-being in ways that are easy to understand and incorporate into one’s therapeutic practice and clients’ lives.

Download Injecting Bodies in More-than-Human Worlds Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Drug use is widely understood in terms of its subjects, substances and settings. But what happens when these distinctions start to blur? Injecting Bodies in More-than-Human Worlds moves away from a hierarchical conceptualisation of drug use based on its subjects and their objects, offering unique and fresh insights into the complex world of injecting drugs. Focussing on the Deleuzian notion of bodies-in-process, Dennis proposes a new and timely approach to drugs where agency materialises in relation to others – human and not. Using rich, ethnographic data to demonstrate bodies’ in/capacities to act through their relationality, Dennis carefully maps out where bodies are thought, practised, lived and intervened-with: caught in tension between pleasure and addiction, activity and passivity, ‘becoming-other’ and ‘becoming-blocked’, and making and breaking habits. Arguing for a deeper engagement both with how bodies are enacted and with our collective responsibility to bring them together in healthier ways, this volume offers a unique intervention into the sociology of drugs and, more widely, health and illness. It will appeal to students and researchers interested in fields such as Science and Technology Studies, Sociology and Social Policy, Drugs and Addiction, and Health and Medical Anthropology.
