Run II at the Tevatron Collider started at the beginning of March 2001. With extensive upgrades on both detectors and electronics the CDF II began to collect data. This paper reviews early Run II physics results obtained by analyzing data collected before the middle of June 2002. At the present the understanding of the detector performances is rather high so many analysis are already underway.

With extensive upgrades to the detector and electronics, CDF has started collecting data with Run II of the Tevatron. The enhanced silicon coverage and the use of silicon based tracks in the trigger, make CDF well suited for a broad program of B hadron measurements. We present the current status of the experiment and prospects for measurements in Run II.

For the past several years, the CDF collaboration has been upgrading its detector to accommodate the higher luminosity and beam energy expected during Run II (2001-2006) at the Tevatron p{bar p} collider. Accelerator improvements include increasing the instantaneous luminosity by an order of magnitude with respect to Run I to 2 x 1032 cm−2 s−1 and increasing the center of mass energy from 1.8 TeV to 2.0 TeV. The detector upgrades include replacing the entire tracking volume, extending the muon coverage, adding a time of flight system, and improving the selection capabilities of the trigger. The partially instrumented detector underwent a commissioning run during September/October 2000 in preparation for starting data taking in Spring 2001 with the full detector. Now that Run II has been extended through 2006, we expect to collect an integrated luminosity of 2 fb−1 during the first two years of running and up to a total of 15 fb−1 by the end of Run II.

In March 2001, the Fermilab Tevatron will start a new physics run of p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 2.0 TeV. The CDF experiments will collect a data sample of 2 fb−1 in the first two years. In this paper the authors describe the B physics prospects at CDF during the upcoming run.

The status of the CDF II experiment is described. Since operations start-up for run II data taking in March 2001, the CDF detector has been commissioned using about 20 pb−1 of data provided by the Tevatron (utilized about 4-8). Most detector components are ready for physics quality data. The goal is to present the first physics results by summer-fall 2002.

This conference series reviews progress in understanding the physics of the 5th quark (beauty quark or bottom quark) and the properties of particles containing a b-quark. These quarks are produced at particle accelerators such as electron-positron accelerators or hadron colliders with the latter being the focus of the conference. One of the main issues in understanding the physics of the 5th quark is CP violation, a mechanism in particle physics that breaks the symmetry of nature between particles and antiparticles ultimately connected to the particle-antiparticle asymmetry of the universe. Topics include: recent results; CP violation; B production and spectroscopy; detectors, hardware, and computing; Vucb, Vub, and factorization; B lifetimes and mixing; rare decays; B trigger at future experiments; B physics at future hadron machines; the future of flavor.

Hadron colliders probe physics at new energy frontiers and search for new particles and forces. In addition, hadron colliders now provide also an environment for precision physics. The present volume collects the results from recently completed runs at major colliders as well as new ideas about collider physics and techniques. It will serve as the main source of reference in the field for many years to come.
