The First Folio of 1623 was printed partly from the earlier Quartos and partly from the manuscript copies in the hands of the players, and consequently did not have the careful editing that the First Folio of Ben Jonson's "Workes" (1616) enjoyed at the hands of the author. Hence, there were many errors, in part due to careless printing, as well as to inaccuracy in transcribing the playhouse copies.
