Housing: The Impact of Economy and Technology contains the proceedings of the International Congress on Housing: The Impact of Economy and Technology, held in Vienna, Austria on November 15-18, 1981. This book includes many outstanding manuscripts prepared by competent, dedicated individuals. This text covers a wide range of problems associated with housing technology and economy. Some papers detail forming systems for mass housing production; housing option for the elderly; energy aspects of housing design in developing countries; the psychological and physiological ecology of indoor environments; and solar heating and Earth insulation for economical houses. Other papers explore training programs for low-cost housing; influence of color in housing; volatile substances of some materials from housing equipment; the impact of changing society and the economy on the housing industry; comparative housing; energy saving and management in buildings; and industrialization of buildings in developing countries.

TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 683: Protocols for Collecting and Using Traffic Data in Bridge Design explores a set of protocols and methodologies for using available recent truck traffic data to develop and calibrate vehicular loads for superstructure design, fatigue design, deck design, and design for overload permits. The protocols are geared to address the collection, processing, and use of national weigh-in-motion (WIM) data. The report also gives practical examples of implementing these protocols with recent national WIM data drawn from states/sites around the country with different traffic exposures, load spectra, and truck configurations. The material in this report will be of immediate interest to bridge engineers. This report replaces NCHRP Web-Only Document 135: Protocols for Collecting and Using Traffic Data in Bridge Design. Appendices A through F for NCHRP Report 683 are available only online.

Stability Design of Steel Frames provides a summary of the behavior, analysis and design of structural steel members and frames with flexibly-jointed connections. The book presents the theory and design of structural stability and includes extensions of computer-based analyses for individual members in space with imperfections. It also shows how connection flexibility influences the behavior and design of steel frames and how designers must consider this in a limit-state analysis and design procedure. The clearly written text and extensive bibliography make this a practical book for advanced students, researchers and professionals in civil and structural engineering, as well as a useful supplement to traditional books on the theory and design of structural stability.

Construction Scheduling, Cost Optimization and Management presents a general mathematical formula for the scheduling of construction projects. Using this formula, repetitive and non-repetitive tasks, work continuity considerations, multiple-crew strategies, and the effects of varying job conditions on the performance of a crew can be modelled.L This book presents an entirely new approach to the construction scheduling problem. It provides a practical methodology which will be of great benefit to all those involved in construction scheduling and cost optimization, including construction engineers, highway engineers, transportation engineers, contractors and architects. It will also be useful for researchers, and graduates on courses in construction scheduling and planning.
