D. 1296-1302 The present volume forms part of a series of Calendars of the Close Rolls from the reign of Edward I. to that of Edward IV., the object and character of which are explained in the Preface to the first volume for the reign of Edward II. (A.D. 1307 - 1313.) The text has been prepared, with the sanction of the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury, by Mr. W. H. Stevenson, M.A., Fellow of St. John's College, Oxford. The Index begun by the late Mr. C. H. Woodruff, B.C.L., has been completed by Mr. C. T. Flower, M.A., of this Office, with assistance from Mr. Stevenson.
