Rich and epic Historical Fiction set against the backdrop of the Great Famine and the Irish Diaspora. Perfect for fans of Winston Graham and Ken Follett. Set against the backdrop of the New World, this powerful novel follows the story of Ellen O'Malley. Torn from Ireland during the Great Famine, Ellen's odyssey has taken her from the harsh landscape of Australia to the killing fields of the American Civil War and poignantly explores forgiveness, longing and the changing role of women set free by war. Together with her natural daughter Mary and adopted daughter Louisa, Ellen helps tend the wounds of the soldiers who have fallen in battle. Surrounded by death and destruction, she little realizes that her estranged son, Patrick, and Lavelle, the husband she desperately seeks, are on opposing sides of the terrible conflict. Meanwhile, Lavelle and Ellen's former lover, Stephen Joyce, likewise seek her out - and each other - with tragic repercussions. Ellen's story is a tale of great loves, impossible choices and the triumph of the human spirit against all odds.

The Brightest Day is centrally about life, love, sex and death in the context modernity. It has aspirations toward freedom and relates to every human being universally. The idea of democracy is limited in scope, concern’s for modern man should always be freedom of culture and individuality. Th e exploitation of any human being strikes me as abhorrent. Th e will to power must exist but channeled into artistic forms. These poems represent a challenge to society. As an artist I wish to explore social issues thoroughly. As a great admirer of poetry this book’s only impact can be that of an immoderate artist. Christian ideals, economic tyranny. Th e aim of my poetry is to provoke awareness of the human condition.

Start a new Easter season tradition with your family by reading this beautifully illustrated "upside-down" book from Marty Machowski that includes fourteen Bible stories. The first side, Darkest Night, has seven stories that recount the events of Passion week ending with Christ's crucifixion and burial. Flip the book over and continue by reading Brightest Day with seven more stories that progress from Christ’s resurrection through Pentecost. Children are sure to remember the contrast between the darkness at the death of our Lord and the light-filled events from Christ’s resurrection onward. Machowski weaves each Gospel account together into one harmonized story and provides questions for family discussion. Focusing on the main events the week of the crucifixion, Darkest Night is designed for families to read one story each day, beginning on Palm Sunday. Once the week ends, they will start with Brightest Day on Easter Sunday. The stories for the week following Easter recount appearances of Jesus after the resurrection, his ascension, and Pentecost. This beautiful hardback book, illustrated by Phil Shorr, is sure to become a treasured favorite of the family to be used every Easter as a reminder of how God turned the darkest night into the brightest day.

Here is a lavishly produced book of previously unseen photographs by the legendary Russian filmmaker Andrey Tarkovsky (1932-1986). The focus of the book is an array of mostly hitherto unseen polaroids from the Florence-based Tarkovsky Foundation, which is maintained by the filmmaker's son Arseniy Tarkovsky. Taken in Russia and Italy between 1979 and 1984, the photographs range from romantic landscapes and studied portraits to private shots of the auteur's family and friends, including the distinguished scriptwriter Tonino Guerra. They demonstrate the singular compositional and visual-poetic ability of this master image-maker. Many of the polaroids created in Russia complement and extend the personal imagery of the film Mirror (1974). Equally rewarding cross-fertilization is apparent in the images that were taken in Italy while he was travelling with Tonino Guerra and preparing Nostalgia (1983).
