Nine brides meet their monsters in this sensual erotica collection from Natalie Deschain, with a guest story by Audrey Grace. Past and future, in worlds of fantasy and places closer to home, dark things gather in the shadows and monsters lurk, but demons and aliens and monstrous gods need love, too. Bride of the Alien Beast Jessica Barnes has always been a troublemaker. Faced with a dishonorable discharge, she takes an offer to join a secret research program to create superhuman soldiers by combining human genetic material with that of an alien- the old fashioned way. Bride of the Swamp Beast At the tail end of her lackluster stint in the Army, Olivia White finds herself signed on to a hidden research facility in the deep swamps, where mad science and human ambition have combined to create something terrible, but the hulking monster lurking in the darkness may be her only hope. Bride of the Sea Monster Christie has been waiting for her wedding night as long as she can remember, but her new husband has refused to touch her until they return home. In the coastal hamlet where they take their honeymoon, a terrible secret waits. Can she love a monster? Bride of the Storm God Heather's village will die unless the drought ends, but the only way to end the drought is to find and placate the Storm God. Only the purest, most beautiful sacrifice will do, and Heather is chosen. Bride of the Demon Beast One night while driving through a lonely stretch of uninhabited back country, Jessica suffers all sorts of troubles. A torrential downpour, a dead cell phone, and a broken down engine. The tiny town where she takes refuges shelters a demonic cult looking for a sacrifice to their strange master, but all is not as it seems. Bride of the Werewolf King In the depths of the Black Forest, a secret military unit investigates terrible secrets from wars past, and awakens the ancient werewolf king, who desires the last survivor as his queen. Bride of the Horned God Once in a generation, the Horned God emerges from his lair to choose a new Queen of Spring. Bride of the Alien Warlord When an alien invasion threatens Earth, their warlord demands that our leader surrender... personally. Mated to the Sea Tentacle On a tropical vacation, Eliza Summers draws the attention of a deep sea creature.

If you were God, writing a book you wanted men to understand, would you write it in such a way that men would have to make up meaning in order to understand it, or would you write it in such a way that those that seek to understand could actually come to a knowledge of its truth (Mt 7:7)? The present commentary takes the position that God wrote Revelation such that with sufficient effort and intellectual honesty, readers can understand it. Certainly God uses symbols in Revelation, but when He does, He provides inspired interpretations of the symbols. This commentary seeks to avoid the mistakes of the views that use the symbolical approach to Revelation (preterist, continuous historical, spiritualist, and idealist). These approaches suffer from two basic flaws: assuming the text is symbolical when it is not and making up meaning regarding the text based on stream of consciousness word association, much as one would do looking at Rorschach inkblots. This commentary seeks to avoid telling God what He should have said and strives to understand what God actually meant. Of all the existing approaches to understanding Revelation, this commentary is most closely aligned with the dispensationalist (premillennialist/Left Behind) view in that it views Revelation from a literalist perspective. It is different from the typical dispensationalist schema in that it views the seven seals as the powers of the Lamb, understands the exercise of the powers of the seven seals to be simultaneous processes, and casts chapters 8-22 as three parallel prophecies of the Lamb's power over the course of the histories of Israel, the nations, and the saints. This commentary also makes use of many of the non-canonical works that provide insight into the spirit world and detail regarding the end of the present age.

"The strange and wonderful define Kim Fu’s story collection, where the line between fantasy and reality fades in and out, elusive and beckoning." —The New York Times Book Review A LitHub, ALTA, and PureWow Best Book of the Month A BuzzFeed and WIRED Pick for a Book You Need to Read This Winter In the twelve unforgettable tales of Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century, the strange is made familiar and the familiar strange, such that a girl growing wings on her legs feels like an ordinary rite of passage, while a bug-infested house becomes an impossible, Kafkaesque nightmare. Each story builds a new world all its own: a group of children steal a haunted doll; a runaway bride encounters a sea monster; a vendor sells toy boxes that seemingly control the passage of time; an insomniac is seduced by the Sandman. These visions of modern life wrestle with themes of death and technological consequence, guilt and sexuality, and unmask the contradictions that exist within all of us. Mesmerizing, electric, and wholly original, Kim Fu’s Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century blurs the boundaries of the real and fantastic, offering intricate and surprising insights into human nature.

A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR (NPR, The Washington Post, Lit Hub, The Telegraph, Goodreads, Tor.com, them, and more) “A deeply strange and haunting novel in the best possible way...An impressive and exciting debut novel that may leave you thinking about your own relationships in a new light.” —NPR “Shocking...Achingly poetic...Sharp and beautiful as coral polyps...Armfield exercises an exquisite—even sadistic—sense of suspense." —Ron Charles, The Washington Post Leah is changed. A marine biologist, she left for a routine expedition months earlier, only this time her submarine sank to the sea floor. When she finally surfaces and returns home, her wife Miri knows that something is wrong. Barely eating and lost in her thoughts, Leah rotates between rooms in their apartment, running the taps morning and night. Whatever happened in that vessel, whatever it was they were supposed to be studying before they were stranded, Leah has carried part of it with her, onto dry land and into their home. As Miri searches for answers, desperate to understand what happened below the water, she must face the possibility that the woman she loves is slipping from her grasp. By turns elegiac and furious, wry and heartbreaking, Our Wives Under the Sea is an exploration of the unknowable depths within each of us, and the love that compels us nevertheless toward one another.
