Download Neurophotonics and Biomedical Spectroscopy Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Neurophotonics and Biomedical Spectroscopy addresses the novel state-of-the-art work in non-invasive optical spectroscopic methods that detect the onset and progression of diseases and other conditions, including pre-malignancy, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, tissue and cell response to therapeutic intervention, unintended injury and laser energy deposition. The book then highlights research in neurophotonics that investigates single and multi-photon excitation optical signatures of normal/diseased nerve tissues and in the brain, providing a better understanding of the underlying biochemical and structural changes of tissues and cells that are responsible for the observed spectroscopic signatures. Topics cover a wide array of well-established UV, visible, NIR and IR optical and spectroscopic techniques and novel approaches to diagnose tissue changes, including: label free in vivo and ex vivo fluorescence spectroscopy, Stoke shift spectroscopy, spectral imaging, Resonance Raman spectroscopy, multiphoton two Photon excitation, and more. Provides an overview of the spectroscopic properties of tissue and tissue-light interaction, describing techniques to exploit these properties in imaging Explores the potential and significance of molecule-specific imaging and its capacity to reveal vital new information on nanoscale structures Offers a concise overview of different spectroscopic methods and their potential benefits for solving diagnostic and therapeutic problems

Biomedical optical imaging is a rapidly emerging research area with widespread fundamental research and clinical applications. This book gives an overview of biomedical optical imaging with contributions from leading international research groups who have pioneered many of these techniques and applications. A unique research field spanning the microscopic to the macroscopic, biomedical optical imaging allows both structural and functional imaging. Techniques such as confocal and multiphoton microscopy provide cellular level resolution imaging in biological systems. The integration of this technology with exogenous chromophores can selectively enhance contrast for molecular targets as well as supply functional information on processes such as nerve transduction. Novel techniques integrate microscopy with state-of-the-art optics technology, and these include spectral imaging, two photon fluorescence correlation, nonlinear nanoscopy; optical coherence tomography techniques allow functional, dynamic, nanoscale, and cross-sectional visualization. Moving to the macroscopic scale, spectroscopic assessment and imaging methods such as fluorescence and light scattering can provide diagnostics of tissue pathology including neoplastic changes. Techniques using light diffusion and photon migration are a means to explore processes which occur deep inside biological tissues and organs. The integration of these techniques with exogenous probes enables molecular specific sensitivity.

Download Fluorescence Lifetime Spectroscopy and Imaging Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
During the past two decades, there has been an increasing appreciation of the significant value that lifetime-based techniques can add to biomedical studies and applications of fluorescence. Bringing together perspectives of different research communities, Fluorescence Lifetime Spectroscopy and Imaging: Principles and Applications in Biomedical Diagnostics explores the remarkable advances in time-resolved fluorescence techniques and their role in a wide range of biological and clinical applications. Broadly accessible, the book captures the state-of-the-art of fluorescence lifetime metrology and imaging and provides current perspectives on their applications to biomedical studies of intact tissues and medical diagnosis. The text introduces these techniques within the wider context of fluorescence spectroscopy and describes basic principles underlying current instrumentation for fluorescence lifetime imaging and metrology (FLIM). It also covers the wide range of methods, including single channel (point) spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, and single- and multi-photon excitation. Edited by pioneers in this field, with contributions from leading experts, the book includes an overview of complementary techniques that help researchers beginning FLIM research. It offers a comprehensive treatment of fundamental principles, instrumentation, analytical methods, and applications. It also provides an overview of the label-free contrast available from lifetime measurements of tissue autofluorescence and the prospects for exploiting this for clinical applications and biomedical research including drug discovery.
