The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has prepared this Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) to guide the management of Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. The CCP outlines programs and corresponding resource needs for the next 15 years, as mandated by the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997 (Improvement Act). Before the Service began planning, it conducted a biological review of the refuge's wildlife and habitat management program, and conducted a public scoping meeting to solicit public opinion of the issues the CCP should address. The biological review team was composed of biologists from federal and state agencies and non-governmental organizations that have an interest in the refuge. The refuge staff held one public scoping meeting. A 30-day public review and comment period of the Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Environmental Assessment was provided. The Service developed and analyzed three alternatives. Details of each are discussed in the plan.
