How is the European Union structured? What are its features and how should it change to take that qualitative step and achieve the original idea of a land that is the cradle of different, but close nations, and turn itself into a united Europe which represents the States but also the citizens. In one word, a Federation? Today’s Europe is a great door with many locks; to discover the Europe of the future and look ahead of us, we need to find all the keys and open all these doors. This is why we wrote this book, which takes a picture of some of the main features of today’s Europe, each one of which is a lock that needs to be opened, and for which we try to suggest the right keys. The keys of our European federation.

"Shortly after graduating in Bridge and Road Engineering in 1929 and being appointed to the rank of reserve lieutenant, I took a look around my city. There were no patterns to follow--only examples to imitate. The grand extravagant projects were the monopoly of the regime of arrogance and favoritism. A modern fish market was needed to replace the grubby "pietra del pesce" on Via Marina. I studied the problem on the spot and visited various other fish markets in Pozzuoli, Milan, Venice, Marseilles, Ostend, Hamburg." This is how Luigi Cosenza (Naples, 1905-1984) describes the genesis of his first project, the Mercato del pesce di Napoli (Fish Market of Naples), built in 1929 and considered the manifesto of the city's rational architecture. This book documents the "M.D.P.N." building in equally rational and elegant images from Germany's renowned Thomas Ruff, beginning with photographs taken in the dazzling light of an early afternoon in September 2002.

Born in New York in 1936, Joan Jonas has been a towering figure in postwar Conceptual and experimental Performance art since the 1960s, when she began her pioneering exploration of gender and identity through a combination of myth, choreography and new media. In 2007, she was a visiting professor at the world-famous Ratti Foundation in Como, Italy. While there, she turned to a text by art historian Aby Warburg (whose writings on Hopi imagery and ritual inspired Jonas' 2005 performance "The Shape, the Scent, the Feel of Things") to create "The Hand Reverts to Its Own Movement," a solo performance centered on the act of drawing. This substantial new monograph spans 40 years of the artist's groundbreaking output and introduces her new performance on the occasion of its world premiere in Como.
