The quotes in this book are designed to help you avoid self-imposed adversities by always thinking first of your options before your actions, in order to avoid permanent irreversible adverse consequences. The choices you make or fail to make will always impact the outcome of your future. A thousand thoughts before you act, is better than a thought after the fact, because it will be too late to react. Too many people impose adverse consequences on themselves and others by failing to think before they act. When you create a world of hate, you create a world stage for others to react in kind. You should always be mindful of your irreversible social media content before it is sent because it will be too late to retract after the fact. You will always have failure when you resort to inappropriate behavior. The best way to avoid self-imposed adversities is to think before you act, because your adverse past will always last, and impact the outcome of your future. When the gun becomes your voice it always sends a deadly message with innocent victims paying the ultimate price because of your gun vice. Distracted driving cost too many lives whether your own or others unknown. Stop and think before you indulge in this victimization process. If you wait for the fall to feel the pain, you have had one too many preventable falls. You will always increase your separation gap with others when you burn your bridges in life. When you think the world is all about you, you only become an island on to yourself. When you think you are too big to fail, remember the Titanic ship's last sail. A Mountaintop View of Faith is an anointed, truthful and empowering book on God's promise, your faith, and victory over everyday adversity. It is a hard hitting, provocative, and exhilarating work written to empower, especially believers, to deepen their faith and be encouraged even facing seemingly impossible adversities. Maldon states that adversities will always be a part of life and he contends that Satan desires to ultimately crush our resolve, hinder our promises from God, and weaken our faith in the sufficiency of God. He points out that adversities may be two-fold: trials appointed by God, or those self inflicted, resulting from our rebellion against God's spiritual instructions. He skillfully teases out how self imposed cripplers such as anger, un-forgiveness, selfishness, disobedience, pride, immorality, worry and others can rob you of peace and promises from God. Maldon encourages us to deepen our faith to reach a pinnacle mountaintop perspective of God.

A resilience theory on religion needs to answer four questions. What defines the kind of adversity which is addressed in religion? What is characteristic for processes of resilience in religion? What defines resilient religion as outcome? Which logic of inference (epistemology) based on our beliefs and experiences about reality binds these three elements together? The book starts with mapping the field of resilience theory on religion by addressing all four questions. The need for thinking about Christian resilience and the God symbol is addressed, and the need to be "explicitly contextual" with regard to resilience in South Africa. Next three types practices of religious acting are related to experiences of resilience, namely preaching, narrating and discerning. In the last chapters the focus is on the way stories help to express feelings of experiences of crises, tragedy, and trauma. But also how stories can help heal the broken heart. Prof Chris A.M. Hermans is extraordinary professor in practical theology and missiology at the University of the Free State (South Africa). He is emeritus professor in pastoral theology at Radboud University (the Netherlands).and emeritus professor in empirical study of religion as Radboud University (the Netherlands). Prof. Kobus (W.J.) Schoeman is professor of practical theology at the University of the Free State (South Africa).

No one searches for adversity. Bad things happen. Yet how many of us will know what to do to prevent our lives from spiraling out of control when we encounter traumatic events that threaten our safety, careers, emotions, health, or relationships? In this pragmatic and inspirational book, experienced US-based life coach and former psychotherapist Eileen Lenson shows us tools to turn suffering into hope and develop resilience by combining scientific research with an understanding of our emotional and spiritual lives. She cuts through existing myths and provides readers with a look into what it takes to not just overcome adversity and survive, but to thrive. Written to help anyone who finds themselves in a painful place, regardless of social background, culture, religion or education, each chapter describes from a scientific, psychological and spiritual perspective, why we do the things we do. Armed with this knowledge we can learn to manage our feelings and respond to devastating events with the skills to seek healthy coping options and change our lives for the better. In this book you’ll learn how to: • Use five core factors of your life — forgiveness, courage, perspective, perseverance, and hope — to reduce emotional suffering. • Identify and replace unproductive coping skills with healthy thoughts, feelings and behaviors. • Master new skills through practice exercises. • Benefit from the stories of others, just like you, who have faced and overcome adversity.

What did you want to be when you grew up? For a long time, I wanted to be a walking talking real life superhero. For over eight years, I pursued that vision of myself in trying to become a Police Officer. With each attempt at selection, and with each letter of decline, I grew hungrier and more determined to make it. It’s answering the highest calling in serving my community, I said during my interview. The selflessness, the sacrifice, the unfathomable courage, and commitment to serve. Finally, I had my shot. My dream had been realised. In three years, I served as a role model, and a protector for my community. I faced everyday what so much of society should never have to see or be exposed to. This is my story, a raw, honest, and open account of life as a South Australian police officer, and the most profound three years of my life. Violence, foot chases, car chases, mental health, domestic violence, and all extremes of human nature. I discovered trying to live everyday as a superhero, can bring its own personal struggles and conflicts. I hope this serves to inspire others, who are considering and are already a part of this incredible career. It’s my humble pleasure to share with you some of the greatest lessons I learnt, what I experienced, and the awe I was in everyday of the heroic actions of the men and women who uphold that blue bridge that separates society from falling into all out chaos.

This book explores the meaning of quality of life in care for older persons and introduces the reader to their main concerns when receiving care. Based on qualitative research, it pays particular attention to the needs and requirements of older people, considering their individual family situations, social circumstances, values and lifestyles. Person-centred care is a way of providing nursing care that puts older people and their families at the core of all decisions, seeing each person as an individual, and working together to develop appropriate solutions. Following an introduction to the concept of quality of life in old age, the book reviews essential findings from worldwide research into the experiences of older people with regard to nursing care and the impact of these experiences on their quality of life. It investigates health promotion, care provided in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and palliative care. Each chapter includes a brief introduction to the respective field of nursing care and the problems it has to deal with, concluding with a discussion of their implications for nursing practice in the respective field of care. In closing, the evidence from qualitative research is discussed in relation to current gerontological theories.
