For some years it has been apparent that in the wake of the rapidly growing industrial and urban complex in the vicinity of Houston, many archaeological sites hae been destroyed or seriously damaged without he recovery of any usable information. Areas purchased by the United States Steel Corporation planned to purchase a 9,000-acre tract east of Houston, and several sites were identified for a brief survey. The author and a crew of three spent the weeks of May 29-June 5, 1967 investigating sites in the Galvaston Bay region. Although only small portions of three sites were tested, the information recovered exceeded expectations and showed how valuable a more extensive program in the area could be.
