Test excavations in the proposed construction area of the East Boundary Deschutes National Forest Southwesterly Section (MP 4.16 to MP 11.24 ) of the Oregon Forest Highway Route 46, the Cascades Lakes Highway, in Deschutes County, Oregon, were conducted under a contract between the Highway Division of the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Oregon State Museum of Anthropology (OSMA), University of Oregon. This sub-surface testing was undertaken in order to determine the nature, extent and potential significance of two prehistoric sites, 35DS56 and 57, that were threatened by the proposed construction.
