"In December 1977 the United States Bureau of Reclamation contracted with the Museum of Northern Arizona to conduct an archaeological survey of the Salt-Gila Aqueduct and Transmission System. The archaeological study, which will be conducted from late January through March of 1978, will have two general purposes. The first will be to provide the Bureau and other historic preservation agencies with data and recommendations for managing the cultural resources which may be impacted by the proposed construction. The Technical Proposal submitted by the Museum to the Bureau dealt with this objective in some detail. The second purpose of the project will be to collect and analyze data that will make a substantial scientific contribution to the archaeology of the region. The goals and methods of the scientific study form the subject of this Research Proposal"--Leaf 1.
