"Whoever said that You cant go back never contemplated the results of war. Its still an intrinsic part of my mental fabric. Often my nightmares carry me back to a place that I detest, a place called Vietnam. It fractures my ego by wafting me along the gentle breeze that turns fantasy into horror. It slams me back into the jungles of my mind and once Im there I cant seem to extricate myself from the bloody legacy of that brutal war. This book is a story that follows my struggles through the mine-infested, ragged edge of fear. The book carries the reader into the places in my mind that mere words can never explain This book is an anthology of the rude and brutal images as seen through the eyes of a naive, innocent 20 year old, one who hadnt even tasted life yet. The book takes a look at what war was like as it evolves from beauty into horror, into the blood-stained shadows of the vicious and mind altering images that once housed an indomitable spirit, fracturing my soul with war torn images of Vietnam. I sit here, glaring through the windows of sadness at a war I fought so many years ago, and it left me with way too much mental baggage"

"Broken Pieces" is a collection of my poems which I had penned down, around two decades back, which sadly, though was sitting on the my bookshelf catching dust. After years of hesitation, I have finally decided to share them with you. These poems were written at a time in my life when I was pushed to the edge. That’s when I found these words. They have served me well; in healing my emotional wounds, which I say we all have our share, while travelling through our life’s paths. None of us are immune to it, but then at the end we need to remind ourselves that "a luminous ray of hope awaits at the other end."

Broken Pieces is an award winning book about relationships, a study of women, and a book with heart. Vastly different in tone from her previous essay collections A Walk In The Snark and The Mancode: Exposed, Broken Pieces is a collection of pieces inspired by life: love, loss, abuse, trust, grief, and ultimately, love again. While still non-fiction, best-selling Broken Pieces is not humor at all. In Thompson's most intensive work to date, she opens her soul and invites the reader in for a visit. Thompson goes into those long buried rooms we lock up deep inside and shares a bit of her soul. Broken Pieces is vulnerable, raw honesty, and no-holds barred. Not easy subjects -- love, loss, sexual abuse, date rape, grief -- but real ones, told in pieces (thus the title).Poetry, prose, and essays to let you into one woman's life -- a searingly raw examination of topics most people avoid

This is my fourth published book, but second poetry book. My style of writing is no "Roses are red, violets are blue", nor is it "I know why the caged bird sings", or "The Weary Blues". It's definitely not love in the air and/or explaining why the river flows. Nothing against those styles or genres, I just don't fall under any of those categories. In fact, I'm glad I don't. Everyone seems to be confined to boxes, titles and labels. I've just never been that chick. What may work for me today, may not work for me tomorrow.

A woman uncovers earth-shattering secrets about her husband's family in this chilling page-turner from New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf Sarah Quinlan's husband, Jack, has been haunted for decades by the untimely death of his mother when he was just a teenager, her body found in the cellar of their family farm, the circumstances a mystery. The case rocked the small farm town of Penny Gate, Iowa, where Jack was raised, and for years Jack avoided returning home. But when his beloved aunt Julia is in an accident, hospitalized in a coma, Jack and Sarah are forced to confront the past that they have long evaded. Upon arriving in Penny Gate, Sarah and Jack are welcomed by the family Jack left behind all those years ago--barely a trace of the wounds that had once devastated them all. But as facts about Julia's accident begin to surface, Sarah realizes that nothing about the Quinlans is what it seems. Caught in a flurry of unanswered questions, Sarah dives deep into the puzzling rabbit hole of Jack's past. But the farther in she climbs, the harder it is for her to get out. And soon she is faced with a deadly truth she may not be prepared for.
