Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Board of Conciliation and Arbitration: For the Year Ending December 31, 1912 To the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled. The twenty-seventh annual report Of this Board reviews its activity during the year 1912. The year had scarcely begun before certain of the work people at Lawrence and other places became disorderly. Assured by organized labor that no trouble would result therefrom, the Legislature had limited the week's work of women and minors in manufacturing establishments to 54 hours. The desired law went into effect January 1, and was made the occasion of textile troubles by disturbers out side the labor movement. Otherwise the relations of em ployer and employed were in the main peaceful. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Board of Arbitration and Conciliation for the Year Ending December 31, 1896 There appears to have been of late a marked change in the attitude of organized labor towards arbitration, notably in Boston and Lynn. It is a cause of regret that the expressed Willingness of workmen and the unions to submit questions to the decision of an impartial tribunal has not always been met in a conciliatory spirit by em ployers. It has been the aim of the Board, in all its reports to the General Court, to give in a con densed and readable form an account of the sev eral phases assumed during the year by the labor question. So called. For obtaining the most ao curate information the Board probably possesses better opportunities than any other three persons not actually Within the arena, and not parties to the debate. Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Board of Conciliation and Arbitration: For Te Year Ending December 31, 1902 It will be noticed that the question of rate of wages, or what is a fair price for work, is the same that comes up for settlement almost daily in courts Of law; and there seems no good reason why it cannot be decided by some such practice as this law now provides. Should this be done, it would eliminate the most prolific source of labor disputes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
