During the year 1879 Dr. Thudichum made progress in his study of the nitrogenous principles of the brain, in continuation of his former researches into the chemistry of brain-compounds. It was foreseen (medical Officer's Report, New Series, No. VIII.) that an inquiry of this great extent and extraordinary difficulty must needs occupy a considerable time; and I am glad now to be able to state 'that the completion of Dr. Thudichum's qualitative study of the various components of the healthy brain may be expected at no very distant period.
