It also serves the consumers of these products by making possible more efficient utilization of the forest resource and better service life of wood products. The good health of this industrial complex is vital to the economy of the Nation, for it constitutes collectively the Nation's fifth largest industry. The function of this report is to present general facts of research progress during 1961. Detailed ac counts of the work done must, however, be reserved to technical publications, Where full information is available. Those in need of detailed information are referred to such reports.
