This book takes an interdisciplinary approach in order to understand angels, focusing on Africa and the cult and persona of the Archangel Michael. Traditional methods in the study of religion including philology, papyrology, art and iconography, anthropology, history, and psychology are combined with methodologies deriving from memory studies, graphic design, art education, and semiotics. Chapters explore both historical and contemporary case studies from Coptic Egypt, Nubia, Ethiopia, and South Africa, providing a comparative perspective on the Archangel Michael, alongside 25 images. Innovative in both its methodologies and geographical focus, this book is an important contribution to the study of religion and art, Christianity in Africa, and Coptic studies.

“The Angels of Africa” book documents a project that I started in May of 2013 with my main goal being to seek out and find groups that were truly making a difference in Africa and provide them with quality media (photos and video). I wanted to do this to bolster their marketing resources in hopes that they could carry out their missions for years to come. This book documents my time with those groups and highlights their selfless efforts. My goal for the book is to raise awareness of the group’s efforts and hopefully raise a little revenue for them as well. The Angels of Africa project really allowed me to give to others, however to my surprise I feel that I gained much more in return. It allowed me to overcome many fears, spread love and grow as an individual. I feel that this project has instilled the confidence inside me to continue down the path of NGO photographer for as long as I am allowed to. This premise of the book was derived from love, was made with love and hopefully will continue to inspire love and compassionate action in everyone who reads it. Know that by buying this book you too are bringing love and attention to an area that desperately needs it. I thank you and I know that the organizations featured in this book thank you as well. Please know that I am selling this book at cost only. No profit will be made. Sending Love and Light.-Marshall Foster

This account of nursing in Africa - in Kenya, Zanzibar, the Seychelles and Northern Nigeria, reflects the author's experience of nursing practice and administration. It explains the problems presented by the African climate and lack of supplies, and the means by which nursing standards were maintained. The book reveals a life and work absorbed by practical tasks in which imperial rhetoric and condescension had no part.

Primo Verona is born with a gift of clairvoyance so strong that he is able to predict his own mother's death while still in her womb. Brought up on a rich diet of astronomy, philosophy, and storytelling, Primo accurately reads the futures of the local community who pay him in honey cake, tiramisu, and other delicacies. Pasquale Benvenuto is the owner of a beloved wine bar and delicatessen whose culinary reputation rests on recipes for the fruited breads and salamis his father taught him to make. Together Primo and Pasquale form an easy friendship triangle with the beautiful Beatrice, Primo's wife and Pasquale's former girlfriend. But when Beatrice leaves her husband for her old love, Primo is devastated. He casts spells to spoil Pasquale's creations and to win back Beatrice -- but inadvertently conjures up an unexpected visitor.

You will enjoy this story of how God is at work in our everyday lives. It is an autobiography of Jerry Gibson, a man who has dedicated his life to God's service. This book shows us how Jerry was called to Ghana, West Africa to direct the founding of Ghana Christian College. Those that came after him searched for the best land for building the college. He recruited a faculty and enrolled students. Thirty-seven years later Ghana Christian College became Ghana Christian University. Its new campus was inaugurated in the summer of 2003. The book will bring both joy and tears as Jerry shares the difficult times he and his family endured. Through it all Jerry gives us his personal account of Christ's abundant light and love at work in his life. I hope you enjoy reading Angels In Africa as much as I have. After reading Jerry's book I recommend sharing it with a friend or family member so that Christ's light and love might reach out to all people. Victor W. Pearn February 24, 2004
