Gentlemen: I have been honored with your letter of the 9th inst., in which you ask, on the part of the class, for a copy of my Introductory lecture, with a view to its publication. Gratified as I am by this early mark of confidence in my opinions on the relative position, attributes and range of Medicine, and on the duties of those who profess to teach it, I cheerfully comply with the wish of "the entire class," so kindly conveyed by you, and I place the manuscript of my lecture at your disposal.
