I might distrust this, were the Opinion confined to myself, but I know that others Of the same opportunities, think as I do. How long this is to con tinue, or where it is to end God, alone, can tell, but the illiberality Of American travellers, and Of many, perhaps most Of the agents employed abroad, is a subject of general complaint among liberal Europeans. It is one Of the causes Of the low condition Of the national character abroad, for, while one set deprecates our testimony as injurious to human rights, another despises us for the meanness.
