Dr. Morse was convinced of the value of the institution, insisted strongly upon its continuance, and offered the earliest pledge received, giving what he deemed his proper proportion for the payment of the out standing debts. The debts were paid, and the association of New York City started at that time upon its unexampled career of prosperity and usefulness.
