These proceedings comprise two workshops celebrating the accomplishments of David J. Benson on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. The papers presented at the meetings were representative of the many mathematical subjects he has worked on, with an emphasis on group prepresentations and cohomology. The first workshop was titled "Groups, Representations, and Cohomology" and held from June 22 to June 27, 2015 at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The second was a combination of a summer school and workshop on the subject of "Geometric Methods in the Representation Theory of Finite Groups" and took place at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from July 27 to August 5, 2016. The contents of the volume include a composite of both summer school material and workshop-derived survey articles on geometric and topological aspects of the representation theory of finite groups. The mission of the annually sponsored Summer Schools is to train and draw new students, and help Ph.D students transition to independent research.

These lectures recount an application of stable homotopy theory to a concrete problem in low energy physics: the classification of special phases of matter. While the joint work of the author and Michael Hopkins is a focal point, a general geometric frame of reference on quantum field theory is emphasized. Early lectures describe the geometric axiom systems introduced by Graeme Segal and Michael Atiyah in the late 1980s, as well as subsequent extensions. This material provides an entry point for mathematicians to delve into quantum field theory. Classification theorems in low dimensions are proved to illustrate the framework. The later lectures turn to more specialized topics in field theory, including the relationship between invertible field theories and stable homotopy theory, extended unitarity, anomalies, and relativistic free fermion systems. This volume contains the Proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Biological Fluid Dynamics: Modeling, Computation, and Applications, held on October 13, 2012, at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the development and application of advanced computational techniques for simulating fluid motion driven by immersed flexible structures. That interest is motivated, in large part, by the multitude of applications in physiology and biology. In some biological systems, fluid motion is driven by active biological tissues, which are typically constructed of fibers that are surrounded by fluid. Not only do the fibers hold the tissues together, they also transmit forces that ultimately result in fluid motion. In other examples, the fluid may flow through conduits such as blood vessels or airways that are flexible or active. That is, those conduits may react to and affect the fluid dynamics. This volume responds to the widespread interest among mathematicians, biologists, and engineers in fluid-structure interactions problems. Included are expository and review articles in biological fluid dynamics. Applications that are considered include ciliary motion, upside-down jellyfish, biological feedback in the kidney, peristalsis and dynamic suction pumping, and platelet cohesion and adhesion.
