James Boswell, most famous for his biography of Samuel Johnson, also wrote an account of his travels in Corsica in the mid-18th century. In addition to describing the landscape, people, and customs of the island, he also became an enthusiastic supporter of the Corsican independence movement led by Pascal Paoli. This book is an intriguing blend of travelogue and political treatise, told in Boswell's convivial and engaging style. With the benefit of hindsight, it is also interesting to see how this work foreshadowed some of the themes and ideas that Boswell would explore more fully in his later writing. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
